New Committee Formed - Aerospace Personnel          
Our newest committee is a high-level group that will develop standards for training workers in the aerospace industry. Committee F46 on Aerospace Personnel will develop internationally accepted standards that define the core competencies for aerospace personnel, providing a baseline for education, testing and certification requirements. As a result, employers will benefit from a broader, more uniform acceptance of expected knowledge and skills of workers. ASTM Standards Used for Drywall Safety Act             
ASTM's standard for drywall, C1396/C1396M, was cited in the United States Federal Register on Jan. 23This fulfilled a goal of the Drywall Safety Act of 2012 to create a standard for limited sulfur content in drywall. The sulfur content limit in the standard will be treated as a consumer product safety rule under the Consumer Product Safety Act. The CPSC action goes into effect on July 22, 2015. More

Committee Welcomes Nominations for ASTM Board           
The ASTM Nominating Committee welcomes suggestions from  ASTM members for candidates for the following positions on the 2016 board of directors: chairman (one-year term); vice chairman (two-year term); and six directors (three-year terms). Contact Maureen Houck to submit your nomination. 
Apply Now for ASTM Scholarships           
Applications for the ASTM Graduate Scholarship are due by April 30. The scholarship rewards students who have demonstrated high levels of interest in or involvement with ASTM standards. As many as four graduate students will receive $10,000 to be used for educational expenses. Applications are also being accepted for the Katharine and Bryant Mather Scholarship, which awards up to $7,500 to undergraduate students who are specializing in cement or concrete materials technology. 
Free ASTM Member and Officer Training
ASTM offers free one-hour online training courses for members. Upcoming courses include New Member Orientation and Training (March 11, April 14). On-demand tutorials Electronic Balloting and Strategic Planning and New Activity Development are also available.

New Latin America Representative Comes on Board
Maria Isabel Barrios is the new ASTM Latin America  representative. Barrios brings a proven track record of partnering with ASTM and other standards development organizations. In this new role, she will lead outreach activities that raise awareness of and support for ASTM among standards bodies, businesses, trade associations, environmental groups, consumer groups and other stakeholders throughout Latin America. African Organization for Standardization MOU

An MOU with with the African Organization for Standardization (ARSO) was finalized on Feb. 17. ARSO includes more than 30 countries and its headquarters is in Nairobi, Kenya. James A. Thomas, president, ASTM, and Hermogene Nsengimana, Ph.D., secretary general, ARSO, signed the MOU. "The MOU will strengthen the relationship between our organizations to help meet the needs of people and businesses in Africa and around the world," says Thomas.
