DID YOU KNOW? . . . Building Safety Month

ASTM is again one of the sponsors of the International Code Council's Building Safety Month in May. Building Safety Month is a public awareness campaign to help the public understand what it takes to create and maintain safe and sustainable structures. The campaign reinforces the need for adoption of modern building codes; code enforcement; and a professional workforce to maintain the system. This year's theme is Building Safety: Maximizing Resilience, Minimizing Risks. Each week will focus on a related topic for code officials: "Keeping Fire in its Place," "Helping Homeowners Weather the Storm," "Surround Your Building with Safety," and "Building a Brighter, More Efficient Tomorrow." More than 2,000 ASTM International standard test methods, specifications and practices support the safe and economic construction and maintenance of buildings. Related ASTM standards address concrete, steel, wood, piping, coatings, sustainability and so much more. The ASTM Built Environment Advisory Committee illustrates how the standards organization is responding to changing needs in the building industry, and ASTM Standards in Building Codes features all of the ASTM building construction standards that aid in the design of buildings that meet international code requirements. For more, visit www.astm.org/sn-construction.
