Interested Parties Invited to Organizational Meeting for Industrial Biotechnology Standardization Activity
ASTM International, at the request of the Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA), will hold an organizational meeting to explore the establishment of a new ASTM standards development activity for industrial biotechnology. The no-fee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 15, and will take place at ASTM's headquarters. Key stakeholders are invited to participate, with the goal of charting a path toward the development of a consensus standardization program for industrial biotechnology. ASTM a Co-Sponsor of Engineering Public Policy Symposium
ASTM International is among the co-sponsors of the 2014 Engineering Public Policy Symposium, which will be held April 29 at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C. Policy-related issues concerning energy, manufacturing and research will be the focus of this year's symposium. Officials from U.S. President Obama's administration, members of the U.S. Congress and their staffs will be invited to attend to discuss policy priorities and the budget for the second session of the 113th Congress. Graduate Scholarship Applications due April 30

Declarable Substances Committee in China
ASTM Committee F40 on Declarable Substances in Materials held its March standards development meetings at Thermo Fisher Scientific's facilities in Shanghai, China. ASTM staff and F40 members participated in other events related to declarable substances in China as well, including workshops on new chemical substances and rare earth materials, and a roundtable discussion on the restriction of hazardous substances (RoHS).
