DID YOU KNOW? . . . Health and Fitness

The 17th annual Family Health and Fitness Day USA will take place on Sept 28. A national health and fitness event for families in the U.S., the idea of the event is to promote family involvement in physical activity through health and fitness events at schools, parks, hospitals, community centers and more. If you are one of the many who do your physical activity on a machine or use a fitness device, know that several ASTM standards address a variety of exercise equipment. Subcommittee F08.30 on Fitness Products, part of Committee F08 on Sports Equipment, Playing Surfaces and Facilities, has developed standards for motorized treadmills, elliptical trainers, stationary upright and recumbent bicycles, upper body ergometers and selectorized strength equipment. As mentioned above, F08.30 has also recently completed new standards for the universal design of fitness equipment for inclusive use by persons with functional limitations and impairments. As the fitness industry continues to grow, the subcommittee is reacting, currently working on developing standards for stationary outdoor fitness equipment, crank training equipment and externally loaded strength training equipment like weight benches, among others.

ASTM International is
one of the world's largest management systems for the development of voluntary standards for materials, products, systems and services.

ASTM International meets the World Trade Organization (WTO) principles for the development of international standards: coherence, consensus, development dimension, effectiveness, impartiality, openness, relevance and transparency.
