We are so excited to be bringing you what you have asked for - a fashion focused sewing weekend with exemplary education and a magnitude of fun!
This weekend is all about YOU and what YOU want.
We already have wonderful teachers and classes chosen, but we want you to help shape those classes. Is there something particular you would like to know? A technique you have been dying to learn? Make yourself familiar with our teachers and their classes and then come to our facebook event page and let us know your thoughts or questions. The teachers are there to listen and will do their best to put your ideas and needs into play at the retreat! Where else do you get this one-on-one attention?

Serging Fashion
Only using your serger to finish seams? This class will kick-up your fashion serger know-how. Learn how to insert zippers, make faux flat felled seams, compress bulky seam allowances and how to insert elastic using the triple cover stitch. Discover stitches that double as construction and create beautiful decorative stitches all in one operation. See how to achieve perfect hems, even curved hems on all types of knits. Eliminate the hidden frustration of which needles work best. Master the cover/chain stitch as we investigate which stitches to use for seam construction on knits and woven garments and which work best when perfecting the fit of a garment, and sew much more! Go home with a renewed enthusiasm for serging and sewing fashionable garments.

Sew Better, Sew Faster, Sew Fabulous!
Would you like to take your sewing from "homemade looking" to "I can't believe you made that"? Do you want to sew faster and have even better results? Maybe you would like to know more about why 5/8" seam allowances are often detrimental to quality sewing. If you answered yes to any or all of these questions we have a treat for you. In this class you will learn sewing techniques that will serve you in every project you ever sew. All techniques will be demonstrated and students will make samples from the kit provided. Start off, as with all of Janet's classes, learning how to hold the fabric, eliminate pins and stop fighting with the sewing machine! To refine your fashion sewing skills, Janet will take you through the easiest and most beautiful bound buttonhole you have ever seen, and she will show you how the same technique can be used for welt pockets. Best of all, its fool-proof! Last, but certainly not least, Janet's tips and tricks on no-fear, fabulous topstitching. Go home with a renewed enthusiasm to sew fashionable clothes that look like high-end designer wear!

Drafting & Designing
Let's make a great fitting straight skirt pattern that you can use to sew your new favorite skirt. I'll also show you how to use it to create a variety of styles. We'll start by breaking up into pairs to take a set of body measurements. Then we'll use those measurements to draft a basic straight skirt pattern. If you've never tried your hand at drafting a pattern, this is the perfect project to start with! I'll show you a variety of waistline treatments and how to draft them using your front and back skirt pattern pieces. If straight skirts are not your thing, no worries, I'll show you how to add fullness at the hem to create an A-line or flared silhouette. Plus, enjoy a trunk show of a variety of skirts that I designed using my custom straight skirt! You'll be amazed at the different designs you can create using your new custom fit straight skirt pattern.

Designing with Commercial Patterns
Eureka! Now you can create your own fashion designs by combining two or more commercial patterns. Imagine the possibilities as you learn to take a sleeve or collar from one pattern and fit it onto another, add sleeves to a vest and create a jumpsuit using pattern pieces from 2 or 3 different patterns, the sky's the limit! Have fun using half scale patterns while you learn many basic pattern manipulation techniques and the simple tricks on how to compensate when patterns don't seem to fit together. Accomplished pattern making expert, Andrea Schewe will answer your questions and she may even sing for you. One thing for certain, she will send you home with the knowledge to solve fashion sewing problems and how to be your own designer.
