Our Friend Simon Haskins
|
Simon Haskins, a very popular instructor, has joined the teaching staff of ASE many times and was scheduled to teach for us again this year. We are sad to say that Simon is having some health difficulties and is currently undergoing treatment for acute Lymphoma.
He is in great spirits, surrounded by loved ones and hundreds of well wishers on Facebook.
Simon has already made arrangements for some of his best teachers to substitute for him at ASE this year.
In true "Simon Haskins style", he has begun a project to raise awareness of this disease and hopefully funding that will help find a cure. This project is described below and you can learn more and join the Facebook group by clicking on the Sunshine 4 All logo below.
My name is Simon Haskins and I have been recently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. This is a very rare blood cancer and has a very long and difficult road to recovery. As part of my journey I would like to try and do something to raise awareness and possibly money for The Leukaemaia Foundation to support those with this horrible disease and hopefully we will one day have a cure. My idea is for the Jenny Haskins, quilting and machine embroidery communities to help me with this project by making an 8" x 8" quilt block that will be used in a quilt for this project. The response that I have had so far as been wonderful and thought a page devoted to the project would be a great way for people to be in contact, post pictures of their blocks and possibly learn more about this disease.
Please help us help Simon with this project. Bring your quilt squares to the expo this fall. First they will be displayed for all to see, then after the expo we will ship them to Simon.
