Although the World Convention of Churches of Christ has been part of the annual meeting of Secretaries of Christian World Communions since its beginning, World Convention has not been engaged in bilateral or other ecumenical dialogues. The reason for that lack of engagement is the nature of the three churches that are part of World Convention.

One more thing World Convention does....a legacy continues in Jamaica...

Many years ago my father, the late Rev. Dr. Forrest Haggard, and his good friend, the Rev. Dr. Richmond Nelson, partnered together to help those in need in Jamaica.

With the help of many, that partnership has led to numerous work camps & mission groups to Jamaica. What began as a conversation sparked during a World Convention board meeting over the need of some batteries, athlete's foot spray and some sewing items for Dr Nelson's school, has now, over the years, led to the building of Schools, Libraries, Homes, Day Care facilities and even Medical Clinic! Buses, ambulances & cars have been purchased. Countless medical and dental services have been provided.

In February 2015 Forrest's grandchildren will be traveling to Jamaica with the Jamaica Medical Missions group. We will be greeted and hosted by our long time dear friend and my "Jamaican daddy" the Rev. Dr. Nelson and his lovely, vibrant wife, Dr. Joyce Nelson.

My two children will take a small carry on with some snacks and personal items. They are each filling two large suitcases with clothing, school supplies and over the counter medicines and supplies for the nurse's closet at the Forrest andEleanor Haggard Medical/Dental Clinic.

Last year the children did a school supply drive and also received 4 cases of toothbrushes from their dentist! This year our focus is on trying to help the Oberlin High School nurse's supply closet. In the past that closet has been kept stocked by annual work camps started by Forrest & Richmond. We saw those empty shelves on our last visit and it has been on our heart ever since.

We give praise to the good Lord for all of the work camps and groups that
continue to serve the Jamaican people that were born out of that friendship some decades ago. We are especially thankful to Richmond and Joyce for welcoming us in their home and encouraging Forrest's grandchildren to continue the good will legacy left to them.

With gratitude and in service of helping others,

Katherine Ann Haggard

"O the quiet holy joy of the silent hour, when the soul is alone with God! Have you learned to love it, dear reader? If not, you have yet to attain to one of the purest and sweetest pleasures possible to the Christian in this life" (J.H. Garrison, Alone with God, 21).

If this quotation has appeal to you, you are not alone. Many of us long to spend time alone with a God. But an hour? In our busy lives? Perhaps, like me, you have desired and intended for years to have a regular quiet time with God, but did not know how to begin. If so, then this volume provides a starting point, a daily five-minute devotional that can begin your time with God.
