A NEW MODEL FOR WORLD CONVENTIONS

  Gary Holloway

One thing for sure about Stone-Campbell Christians, we love to meet! And in my role at World
Convention, I get to "convene" (meet) with others at many of our gatherings.

Suitcases are unpacked. Laundry is done. Dust bunnies have been collected. I have returned to routine with time to gather notes and thoughts and pictures.

Matthew 25:35-36

I was hungry and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me.  I was naked and you gave me clothes to wear. I was sick and you took care of me. I was in prison and you visited me.' Common English Bible (CEB)

In Memory...

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Oscar Haynes, and of Mary Howard.

Church leaders gathered in Reston, VA, on Aug. 9 to honor the life and legacy of Oscar Haynes, first lay president of the National Convocation and spouse of First Vice Moderator Joan Bell-Haynes. Haynes was the recipient of numerous awards across the life of the church for his tireless work. He was also part of the original March on Washington for civil rights. The Disciples of Christ Historical Society named a room in his honor in 2008.

Mary Howard's life was celebrated in Tulsa, OK on August 13. Preceded in death by husband Sam Howard, she will be remembered by all as a caring, patient, talented, and beautiful woman who taught all, by example, how to live a giving, Christian life.
Daily Disciple
                             -Gary Holloway

"O the quiet holy joy of the silent hour, when the soul is alone with God! Have you learned to love it, dear reader? If not, you have yet to attain to one of the purest and sweetest pleasures possible to the Christian in this life" (J.H. Garrison, Alone with God, 21).

If this quotation has appeal to you, you are not alone. Many of us long to spend time alone with a God. But an hour? In our busy lives? Perhaps, like me, you have desired and intended for years to have a regular quiet time with God, but did not know how to begin. If so, then this volume provides a starting point, a daily five-minute devotional that can begin your time with God.
