August saw the birth of an exciting new joint venture called START-UP Genesee that is designed to foster entrepreneurship in Genesee County.  A wide range of local economic development agencies have teamed up to develop a business assistance network dedicated to providing business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs with guidance on starting, growing and succeeding in the business world.

JOIN US FOR OUR AGRICULTURAL BUSINESS TOUR - SEPTEMBER 21st
 
The Chamber's Agricultural Committee will be hosting its annual Agricultural Business Tour on Tuesday, September 23rd.  The tour runs from 8:00 a.m. to noon and will discuss a variety of agriculture topics and visit Genesee Valley Educational Partnership and Lamb Farms.   The Ag Committee invites all area business leaders and community members to attend this very informative tour - and it's free!

SMALL BUSINESS WORKSHOPS FREE TO CHAMBER MEMBERS
 
The Chamber's Small Business Workshop schedule has been announced for the remainder of 2016 as follows:   "Human Resources Tips for Small Business" - September 14; "Year-End Tax Planning Tips for Small Business" - October 12; and "Strategic Planning for Small Business". 

Small business workshops are held at the Chamber office and start at 7:30 a.m.  They are free to Chamber members and $10 to non-Chamber members.  For more information contact Kelly Bermingham or call 585-343-7440 ext. 26.
CHAMBER LOOKING FOR STORAGE SPACE
 
With the move to our new building at 8276 Park Road this fall, the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce is in need of some storage space to store some of our seasonal items (signs, decorations, etc.)  used for our annual events.  If any Chamber member has any extra space (100-200 sq. ft.) that they could donate to the Chamber, please contact Tom Turnbull at tturnbull@geneseeny.com or by phone at 343-7440 ext. 29.  Your help would be greatly appreciated! 
CHAMBER TRAVEL TRIPS - AMERICA'S MUSIC CITIES AND REFLECTIONS OF ITALY
 
The Genesee County Chamber of Commerce is offering two fantastic travel opportunities in 2017.  A special tour of America's Music Cities - New Orleans, Memphis and Nashville - is scheduled from April 23-30, 2017.  Cost of the trip is only $2,899 per person for a double room and there are only a limited amount of reservations available.  A special travel presentation on the trip will be held on Tuesday, September 13 at 5:30 p.m.  at the Quality Inn & Suites, 8250 Park Road, Batavia.
 
The Chamber is also offering a Reflections of Italy tour September 27 - October 6, 2017 and includes stops in Milan, Venice, Florence, Siena, Perugia, Assisi and Rome.  Cost of the trip is only $4,119 per person for a double room and there are also only a limited amount of reservations available.

GOOGLE STREET VIEW PHOTOGRAPHER COMING BACK TO THE AREA
 
The popularity of this program with Genesee County businesses is so strong that we are bringing our Google Street View photographer back to the area on September 15th. If you want to show prospects and customers how awesome your business establishment is, this is your chance to do that right from your Google Search and Google Maps listing.
 
Want details?  Fill out and submit the online form located at the bottom of the program web page linked here and our "Google Guy" will call you to discuss the details and get you on the schedule.  You shouldsign up right away as there is limited availability on their itinerary for this day and it's a first-come / first-served basis.

  • September 23-25: NYS RV Show, NYS Fairgrounds Syracuse, NY 
  • August  25 - September 5: The Great New York State Fair, NYS Fairgrounds Syracuse, NY
Group Travel Show
Genesee County, in partnership with Livingston, Wyoming and Orleans Tourism offices will be representing our 4-county tourism region at the following group travel show this month. We will meet with over 70 domestic and international tour operators and 120 group travel planners during this marketplace.  Thank you to all of our group friendly tour locations that provided us with their updated tour offerings.  We will be sharing the leads from this show with partners when we return.
  • September 12 & 13: Destinations Group Travel Show, Syracuse, NY
International Tourism
The Chamber's Tourism staff will be attending I Love NY's International Marketing Workshop in Syracuse on September 13th.  The I Love NY Team will present along with their representatives who are promoting NYS in Australia, China, Germany and the UK.   As follow up to this, we are planning to hold a training/learning session in Genesee County with an emphasis on the UK and German markets.  Once the date has been finalized we will provide full information on how to participate.
 
Looking for an online ticketing option? 
The Batavia Daily News has initiated a centralized ticketing program for the GLOW region! DailyNewsTickets.com will act as an online ticket sales destination for all GLOW events, including free events and fundraisers.  The program is very customizable and each event is given a unique URL that can easily be linked to the users' website.  For more information, click HERE or contact Michael Messerly, Publisher of the Batavia Daily News.

E-Z PASS TAGS AVAILABLE AT THE GENESEE COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
 
As a convenience to area residents, the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce sells E-Z Pass tags. In conjunction with the New York State Thruway Authority, E-Z Pass tags are conveniently available at the Chamber for $25 each.
 
Here's how it works:  Stop by the Chamber and buy a prepackaged kit for $25.  Register the Tag. Install and use! Once registered, it can be replenished as needed.  Enjoy the convenience and savings (10%) by using E-Z Pass.
