News from the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

It may be summertime but there is still a lot going on at your Genesee County Chamber of Commerce.

I was fortunate to be able to attend the Chamber Alliance of New York State Summer Conference in June.  The conference was held in Livingston County and Livingston County Chamber President Laura Lane and her staff did a wonderful job of showing off the area to Chamber executives from all over New York.

These conferences are always a great way to get together and compare notes with other Chamber executives.    While each of us has distinct, unique challenges in our home markets, there are a great deal of commonalities that we all share as well.  These conferences allow us to share information and ideas that we can bring back and implement in our home markets.

JULY - TOURISM NEWS

Keep an eye out for car clubs this July!
From July 9-17th Genesee County will play host to two major car clubs which will bring 200 people to Batavia. The Quality Inn & Suites will be the host hotel for both groups.

First we'll welcome the 1965-66 Full Size Chevrolet Club.  The 100 member club is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1966 Impala, "Celebrating '66 in '16."  Their agenda includes a tour of Oliver's Candies and Kutters Cheese in Batavia and the JELL-O Museum in LeRoy. The group would also like to welcome the public to their show day on July 13 at Ken Barrett Chevrolet dealership in Batavia!  While in the area, they will also be cruising Letchworth State Park, having a show day at the local dealership, touring the Chevy plant, visiting the Carousel Museum, getting an exclusive tour of the Pierce Arrow Museum and visiting the Erie Basin & Waterfront Naval Park!

Next, the Western New York Regional
Group #3 of the Early Ford V-8 Club
of America will arrive on July 10th to celebrate their 50th anniversary.
This particular group is centered in Rochester. They feature all Ford products produced from 1932-1953 and are the second oldest active regional group in the world.  In 2006, we hosted the Eastern National Meet which brought in 300 vehicles and over 1,000 people!  This year the club is taking a 5 day National Driving Tour around the Finger Lakes with approximately 50 vehicles.  This tour starts in Batavia on the 10th, and will end here as well, on July 15th.  Some families plan to extend their stay through that weekend.

Be sure to wish them a warm, Genesee County welcome if you happen to meet any of them!

The Dirty Girl Mud Run is a 3.1 mile, 14 obstacle muddy event built to inspire fabulous females to run, walk, climb, jump, and laugh their way, hand in muddy hand, to an unabashed sense of accomplishment.  Dirty Girl Mud Run brings its muddy merriment across the country, cementing its place in history as the World's Largest Women's Only Mud Run. This year Genesee County will host the event at Area 51 Motocross on July 16 starting at 9am.  There are approximately 250 women that participate in the race at all levels of experience, and the event is expected to draw 1,000 participants and spectators with 96 overnight rooms booked in Batavia throughout the week of July 12-17.  For more information on the run click HERE

Hello from our Summer Intern - Kaleigh Hinkson

My name is Kaleigh Hinkson and I am very excited to be a summer intern at the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce. I have lived in Genesee County for my whole life and graduated from Alexander Central School in 2012. I currently work as a waitress at a local restaurant in Batavia which helped me decide my major in college. As a waitress, it is my job to create an unforgettable experience along with an inviting atmosphere for people to dine in, which lead me to realize my passion for hospitality and the experience people get through the service we give. I attended Genesee Community College right after high school, and graduated in May of 2016 with a degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management.

I chose to do my internship at the Chamber of Commerce because I am interested in promoting tourism in my hometown and learning more about how to bring in tourism and business to the Genesee County area.

Note: Kaleigh has indicated that she is especially interested in event planning.  If any of you member businesses have upcoming events that she can assist you in the planning, please give us a call or email Lauren Humphrey at visit@geneseeny.com.  No event is too small and we hope that she can  experience different aspects of event planning.
YOU'RE NOT STUCK, YOU'RE JUST USING YOUR TIME WRONG.

Every single day we find ourselves stuck in some form or another: Stuck on hold for an hour. Stuck in a job we don't like. Stuck across town because a meeting was cancelled. Stuck with an obligation that someone else signed us up for. Stuck in a failing company.

We're stuck-we don't have a choice about that. But we do have a choice about something else: What will we do with this time?
