On Tuesday, Nov. 3, GUMC faculty and students from the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing & Health Studies, Biomedical Graduate Research Organization and Georgetown Lombardi were recognized for their contributions to research, education and service at the Eighth Annual GUMC Fall Convocation. The GUMC Fall Convocation also celebrated the achievements of Martin J. Blaser, MD, the Muriel and George Singer Professor of Medicine and professor of microbiology, as well as director of the Human Microbiome Program, at New York University Langone Medical Center. A world-renowned researcher and clinician, Blaser has studied how bacteria can prevent or promote the development of disease for more than 30 years.

Panelists representing the fields of infectious disease, family medicine and public health addressed the growing threat of antibiotic resistance at the convocation colloquium. 
 




The inaugural membership cohort of the GUMC Teaching Academy of Health Sciences, which is a part of CENTILE, was installed at the 2015 convocation ceremony on Nov. 3. The 68 initial members represent various disciplines across the medical center, from family medicine to nursing to radiology.
