Support A Precious Child - fill our "Wish List"!
We are growing the impact that we have on underprivileged children in the Denver Metro area and we have ongoing needs to be able to continue to provide basic essentials for more disadvantaged and displaced children. This "Wish List" is a way for us to communicate our immediate needs for monetary and in-kind donations so that we can all work together to support kids in Colorado!

Please consider joining the fight against child poverty in a new way!

1. "Leave A Footprint" in a child's life by making a monthly commitment to support A Precious Child! These recurring financial commitments are truly what keeps us going in our efforts to fight poverty. Visit our website for sponsorship information and to give now. A donation of $25 per month would allow us to provide, for example, one additional child per month with enough clothing to cover two full weeks of outfits. Sign up now! It is our goal to get 10 more individuals signed up to "Leave A Footprint" this month.

2. Donate these items:

  • New and gently-used clothing for infants, children, and adults - especially girls and boys shirts size 6 and up and summer clothing
  • Shoes, sandals, sneakers, and other footwear of any kind in all sizes
  • New socks and undergarments in all sizes
  • Diapers (specifically sizes 4, 5, and 6), baby wipes, and baby formula
  • Maternity clothing, especially shirts
  • Infant gear, such as strollers and other baby accessories
  • Gently-used sports equipment
  • Small household items, such as pots, pans, flatware, and small appliances

For more information, call us at 303-466-4272 or visit our website. If you have questions about additional ways to give, such as corporate sponsorships, please contact Nicole Salter, Director of Development, at [email protected].

Volunteer of the Month
May 2014
Alice Kidney

Alice Kidney has been volunteering multiple times a week in our Resource Center since September of last year. Alice is incredibly helpful when sorting and hanging clothing in our Donation Receiving Area, as well as when she is restocking and organizing our shopping floor.

When The Learning Center opened in February, Alice was more than happy to jump in and help wherever necessary. We send a huge thank you to Alice for her great attitude and willingness to help! It is because of volunteers like Alice that we can continue to help children in need! Thanks to Alice for your great work!

Greetings!
Happy summer! We are so grateful for all of your continued support. We couldn't do what we do without you! We have many exciting updates to share with you, and we hope you'll check out the new "A Precious Child Wish List" section of our newsletter!
This Month's Story of Hope

We just HAD to share this story of Cheryl and her two grandchildren, Dylan (10) and Deron (7) because of the way it touched our hearts. Seeing them in the Resource Center was a good reminder for all of us of the reasons for the work that we do and why we all stand behind this mission.

Cheryl is the only caregiver for her two lovely grandchildren. She was originally referred to us by FEMA, she lives in Longmont and lost most of her belongings to the floods. Both of her children have special needs and Dylan suffers from a life-altering brain tumor. She is the only family the boys have left and she feels extremely grateful to have them with her, however she was forced to quit her job in order to provide the children with the appropriate care.

The morning this photo was taken, Cheryl, Dylan and Deron arrived exhausted because they had spent the night in the emergency room. Dylan had some complications from his tumor and Deron would not leave his side. When they arrived at A Precious Child they found a piece of hope and a moment of peace and love that they hadn't experienced in a long time. We are so thankful to have your support so that we can continue to assist families facing similar circumstances.

The Golf for A Precious Child Tournament was a HUGE success!

On June 16, we hosted the 6th Annual Golf for A Precious Child Tournament presented by Kirsty Martinez of Keller Williams Preferred Realty, Neil Shelton of Country Financial and Hitachi Consulting. We could not be more excited to announce that this year's event was a tremendous success. We are so thankful to all of you who joined us out there to get swinging for a great cause! It was a day of fun and fundraising for A Precious Child, filled with a Famous Dave's BBQ-style lunch, and a silent, live auction and special appeal. The event raised more than $78,000 to support underprivileged children in Colorado!

Click here for photos of the tournament (use access code: APC). We hope that those of you who couldn't join us at the tournament are looking forward to the many other events and ways in which you can get involved to help us serve more disadvantaged and displaced Colorado children.

For more information about A Precious Child involvement, events, or development, please contact Emily Simones, Event Coordinator, at [email protected] or Nicole Salter, Director of Development, at [email protected].

Thanks again to our sponsors and all who joined us to swing for a great cause!

A Precious Child earns recognition as 2014 Large Nonprofit of the Year from the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce!

A Precious Child received the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce's 2014 Large Nonprofit of the Year Award last month.

We are honored and humbled to receive this award and we are thrilled to be able to share this exciting news with all of you.

This award is a huge testament to the impact that A Precious Child has in the Denver Metro Area and we are thrilled to share this award with our supporters in the community that enable us to do the work that we do!

Summer's here, but "back to school" is just around the corner! Support our Fill A Backpack program and help us reach 6,500 kids!

School's out for the summer, but in just a few short months everyone will be heading back to school. Every year displaced, disadvantaged and at-risk children do not have the school supplies they need to succeed in their academic pursuits. Our Fill A Backpack program aims to change that by providing backpacks filled with age-appropriate school supplies. In 2013 we assisted over 6,000 kids through our Fill A Backpack program. This year, we want to reach 6,500 children and we cannot do it without your help!

More than 90 local businesses and organizations have committed to hosting donation drop-off locations for backpacks and school supplies from July 14th through August 15th. The list of school supplies needed can be found by clicking here.

If you wish to provide supplies for a specific child, stop by the A Precious Child Resource Center at 557 Burbank Street, Unit E in Broomfield and pick up a tag detailing the child's gender, grade, and specific school supply needs.

Our largest drive of our Fill A Backpack season will be held in partnership with the Broomfield Police Department on Saturday, July 26 from 9am through 5pm at the Walmart at 4651 W 121st Ave in Broomfield.

If you'd like more information about how to get involved or if you're interested in hosting a bin for the school supply drive, please contact Courtney Rogers, Director of Programs, at [email protected] or at 303-466-4272.

A HUGE Thank You to Level 3 Communications for Volunteering!

On Monday, June 9, over 24 volunteers from Level 3 Communications joined us for some hard work and long volunteer hours and we couldn't be more thankful for their continued support of our programming and our mission. From sorting donations and cleaning to helping us move our Headquarters down the road to the new executive offices, you all provided us with tremendous assistance. We really couldn't have done it without you! You proved, once again, the old adage that many hands do make light work. So, from all of us here at A Precious Child, thank you!

For those of you who volunteer with us on a regular basis, please know that this gratitude extends to you as well. We rely on volunteer support to execute the day-to-day work of our Resource Center. Whether you are assisting with clients in the Resource Center, working with children in The Learning Center, helping sort and prepare donations, or providing us with some form of administrative assistance, please know that you are a vital part of this organization. Together, we accomplish much more to fulfill our mission to generate a positive impact in the lives of underprivileged Colorado children than we would without the hard work, dedication, and long hours of you, our volunteers.

So, as we look toward the summer months, we want to do so with a tremendous sense of gratitude. Thank you Level 3 Communications for once again partnering with A Precious Child and sharing your time and talents with us. And, thank you volunteers, supporters, and donors, we couldn't do this without you!

Thank you again to all supporters of A Precious Child. We greatly appreciate you! Together we can do more for children in need in Colorado.

Sincerely,

A Precious Child Staff
