Introducing Our Summer "Dreamer"

We cannot thank Denver Transit Partners (DTP) enough for their ongoing partnership and support. This summer DTP has sponsored an intern, Brianna, that joins us from the I Have A Dream Foundation.

The foundation is one of our Agency Partners and it works with at-risk youth between 3rd and 12th grade. It provides mentoring, academic assistance, life-skills development, cultural enrichment and partial scholarships to enhance academic success.

Brianna is an asset to our team and we are so excited to have her help throughout the summer months. Welcome Brianna!

Kade celebrates his 9th birthday by giving back

Kade is a young supporter who celebrated his 9th birthday by asking his friends and family to bring in donations for A Precious Child. Instead of asking for new toys for his birthday, Kade wanted to give back to less fortunate children. Kade felt that he already had all the toys he wanted. He brought in sports equipment, toys, books, and even clothing!

Thank you for your generosity, Kade!

Eagle Scout Helps A Precious Child!

A BIG thanks to Eagle Scout, Jacob, and his friends who spent the day volunteering at A Precious Child. They helped install much-needed shelving in our program storage area!

A Precious Child and Yoga Rocks in the Park
On June 30th, A Precious Child was chosen to receive a percentage of proceeds from Yoga Rocks the Park. We were able to address the group prior to the start of the yoga class and share some information about A Precious Child, our current needs,  Fill A Backpack drop-off locations, and volunteer opportunities! Hopefully, we were able to bring more awareness to the Denver community through YRP!
Greetings!

Summertime is flying by! This month at A Precious Child has been an amazing one filled with dedicated volunteers, great events, and of course adorable kids. We cannot believe it is already July, and we welcome the month with enthusiasm and excitement for our plans for the rest of the summer. Please read on to learn more about ways you can get involved!

Start Collecting Sports Equipment: The 2nd Annual Jessica Ghawi giveSPORTS Equipment Drive is August 24th

Mark your calendars! The 2nd Annual Jessica Ghawi giveSPORTS Equipment Drive is taking place at the Pepsi Center on Saturday, August 24th from 7am-noon. Last year, the event brought in more than 25,000 pieces of gently-used sports equipment for underprivileged children. This year, we're growing the event so that we can help more children have the opportunity to play sports. Individuals, families and organizations are encouraged to collect gently-used sports equipment and funds for giveSPORTS' participation fee scholarship program. All donations can be dropped off at the Pepsi Center on the day of the drive. Local sports celebrities ranging from Denver Nuggets to members of the Colorado Avs will be at the event. We look forward to seeing you on the 24th!

We have teamed up with Kroenke Sports & Entertainments and Sullivan's Steakhouse on a brand new event, "giveSPORTS Celebrity Nights"! Every Thursday throughout the month of August, between 2 and 4 celebrities will be bartenders at Sullivan's Steakhouse located at 1745 Wazee Street in Denver. Each week, Sullivan's Steakhouse will feature new celebrities from 5pm-9pm. Celebrities' names will be announced by the end of July! Volunteer of the Month: John

John is a retired Navy Veteran and one of our wonderful devoted volunteers. He comes in every morning five days a week to help out at the Resource Center. He has been with A Precious Child for almost 4 years! John says "I chose to volunteer at A Precious Child because of the positive impact they have on children and families in the community."

John spends most of his time untangling hangers from large bins and placing them on racks. The bins are organized into type and size, but often - with the activity in the Resource Center - everything ends up in a single bin. He described these bins as "chaos bins," and said, "sorting hangers is a job that needs to be done, but not many people want to do it." It's the little things that make a huge difference within our organization. Without John's help and dedication, the Resource Center would not run as smoothly as it does.

John is a loved volunteer at A Precious Child. When John's name is mentioned, it brings a smile to other volunteers, employees, and client's faces. Everyone calls John "The Hanger Man," and he is so much more then that to all of us. Thank you for your inspiration, John. We appreciate you!

1st Annual Kickback 4 Kids a Success!

Our brand new event, Kickback 4 Kids, was a hit! Over the course of one week, we were able to raise more than $14,539 thanks to a $5,000 match from OtterBox's foundation, OtterCares. Ten outstanding local restaurants participated in the event by choosing one or more days during the week of June 19th through June 23rd to donate at least 10% of their sales to A Precious Child.

We could not have had this great success without the help of Which Wich, Renegade Brewery, Lucky Pie Pizza & Taphouse, Old Chicago, Flatz Restaurant, Turquoise Mesa Winery, DD's Sourdough Pizza, Big Choice Brewing, Delvickio's, and Oskar Blue's Brewery! Thank you to those who also participated in Kickback 4 Kids by dining at these participating restaurants. We look forward to kicking back with you again for the 2nd annual event.

Partnership Highlight: Father's Day at Dicks Sports Complex

For a special Father's Day celebration, we teamed up with Pastor Bryan from Denver United Church on a family-oriented event focused on bringing families with incarcerated parents together. Father's Day provided a unique opportunity for dads to bond with their children and share a special experience. The goal of the event was to create a defining moment in the lives of children with an incarcerated parent. According to the Department of Justice, children with an incarcerated parent have a 75% chance of going to jail or prison themselves.

We centered the day around sports, creating an exciting and energetic atmosphere for the fathers and children to create lasting memories. We hoped to encourage and motivate the fathers to get back into their community and stay active and dedicated to their families. One of our corporate partners, Dick's Sporting Goods, donated soccer balls to A Precious Child and they were given to the children at the event. Emotions ran high at the event, some fathers had not seen their children in more than ten years. It was a beautiful day to get reconnected!

A HUGE thank you to the Broomfield SWAT Team

We were very lucky to have the Broomfield Swat Team volunteer at the Resource Center recently. The team helped sort through our large pile of donations and restocked the Resource Center. They also helped set up for our upcoming program, Fill A Backpack. We could not have the impact that we do without great volunteer groups like the Broomfield Swat team. Thank you Broomfield Swat Team!

Thank you again to all supporters of A Precious Child. We greatly appreciate your support! Together we can do more for children in need in Colorado.

Sincerely,
