Megan Sandstrum

Volunteer of the Month

Megan Sandstrum
Megan Sandstrum first came to A Precious Child with an ambitious goal. Having had such great experiences volunteering in her community, she wanted to inspire other youth to do the same. Megan came to A Precious Child's Executive Director, Carina Martin with the idea of starting a Youth Advisory Board. The Youth Advisory Board would be responsible for garnering youth engagement in various volunteer opportunities and for creating awareness about A Precious Child. Being the Chair of the Youth Advisory Board, she got in contact with the Superintendent of Adams 12 Five Star Schools and asked if she would be able to present to the districts principals as well as their counselors. With conviction and confidence, Megan presented the compelling case of A Precious Child's Precious Boutiques, which are small clothing banks set up at low income schools to better supply children in need with proper clothing as soon as they need it. Because of her presentation, Megan helped get 4 additional boutiques set up in the Adams 12 Five Star school district. These boutiques have already been able to help hundreds of children in need. Megan also volunteers tirelessly at A Precious Child events and helps raise awareness of the need that is in her own backyard. Megan Sandstrum makes our world a better place to live.

Jolene BD donation

We had a wonderful little girl, Jolene (above) who just celebrated her birthday.  Instead of asking for birthday presents, she asked for friends to give her donations for A Precious Child. She goes to Prospect Ridge Academy and loves giving back to her community.  Thank you Jolene and all her friends for your kindness and generosity!

Client Stories

The joy we see in our families after leaving A Precious Child is amazing, and we love to share some simple moments with you.

Brittany is a teen mom of two lovely boys looking for a job. Brittany is very exited to move out of her mothers' house and to become independent. She is working on job training and learning how to take care of her children with the help of Shiloh Home, which is an organization offering both residential and non-residential treatment to youth whose lives have been impacted by abuse, neglect, and trauma. She recently came to A Precious Child looking for clothes to wear during job interviews. We were able to provide her with a few professional outfits for her interviews and sent her on her way with renewed confidence. In addition she got all the clothes, blankets, diapers and food her kids needed. With her positive attitude, determination and the little push we were able to give her, she says she is ready to take on any job interview that comes her way.

Here at A Precious Child we do our best to encourage those who have lost their hope of turning things around in their life.

Girl June

This is the case of Angela and her family. She and her husband had a premature little girl who was born with special needs. This she tells us started a cycle that they have not rebounded from yet. She told us that it's thanks to agencies such as A Precious Child that she found hope once more. She expressed to us how "the shopping atmosphere makes you feel whole and normal" Angela feels very grateful for every item she received from A Precious Child and we are sure that given time Angela and her husband will find their way again.

One of our clients who has been with us for more than a year (she also occasionally brings our staff delicious homemade burritos for lunch) unfortunately experienced a fire in her mobile home. Although her mobile home was still intact, she lost a lot of clothing and household goods. She called last week just wanting to talk about how she was feeling and how she felt like she was getting back on her feet when this happened. We let her come in today to shop for herself and her kiddos. On top of the clothing that she got, we were also able to get her some household appliances which she wasn't expecting at all. She brought this card with her and expressed several times how grateful she was for A Precious Child and all that we do!
