Kami Johannes

Volunteer of the Month

Kami Johannes
All of our volunteers are incredible, special people who make a huge impact on our organization and mission. Kami Johannes is no exception to this rule.  However, her impact has been felt almost instantaneously and with a resounding effect.  Kami is a talented marketing and design consultant who has graciously offered to help A Precious Child re-brand our organization from top to bottom.  Her generosity can be seen in our new logo and on our program collateral materials but will soon be reflected in everything we publish.  Thank you Kami for being our marketing guru and hero!
An Amazing Child Supporting
A Precious Child
Young Donor

We received a $20 donation from a wonderful 8 year old girl named McKenzie that was volunteering with her dad, Stephen.

She told us that every week her parents give her $8. She keeps $4, puts $2 in savings and gives $2 to a charity of her choice. She really liked what we do as an organization and she chose us to be the charity she donated to. McKenzie saved for two and a half months to give us this donation.  She also brought in a stuffed animal that she was able to give directly to a child that was shopping with their family that day! Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness
McKenzie!

Hundreds Run In Chick-fil-A Larkridge 5K Run/Walk Benefiting A Precious Child

Last Saturday was the perfect day to go for a run.  And how perfect for A Precious Child that Chick-fil-A Larkridge organized an incredible run to benefit A Precious Child on the same morning?  We are so grateful to the more than 250 runners and their families who came out to run with the Chick-fil-A Cow and show their support for A Precious Child.  An enormous thank you to June Werner and Barrie Goettsche from Chick-fil-A Larkridge and their wonderful sponsors for their help and dedication to making this fun and fantastic event possible!

Client Stories

The joy we see in our families after leaving A Precious Child is amazing, and we love to share some simple moments with you.

Tiffany Nichole Harper suffers from Multiple Sclerosis. The tremors and fatigue this disease causes her render her daily life quite challenging. Just when she'd learned to live with her condition she was diagnosed with cervical cancer, which as she puts it "increased her medical bills and decreased her financial resources". Her medical expenses are too high to keep up with, and they certainly take resources away from her 11 year-old twins.  We were glad she could bring her children here to ensure they have what they need to finish school strongly and start summer.

Like many people, Mee Chang would have never imagined being homeless, but an economic downturn forced her to move her family into a shelter. But her perseverance has paid off, she recently moved into an apartment with her boys and she has been able to begin filling the empty walls and cabinets with some household items she found at A Precious Child.

Mee feels very fortunate for her recent struggle. She feels that she has learned "valuable lessons on the love that people have shown (her family) without even knowing them at all".  It's always beautiful to see a child smile after receiving a new toy, some clothing, or books.

Fill A Backpack Volunteers Needed!

With this summer approaching us quickly we are looking for volunteers for our Fill A Backpack program. Last year with the help of the community we were able to provide 3,200 backpacks to disadvantaged and displaced children in Colorado. This year our goal is to help more than 4,000 get the tools they need to succeed in school and we need your help! We have a lot of great opportunities for you to help! If you are interested in hearing more about these volunteer opportunities contact megan@apreciouschild.org

A Precious Child Volunteers Help With Inventory

It is not the most glamorous of volunteer projects, but our inventory days are essential to the success of our programs and organization.  A Precious Child would like to thank all of our volunteers for helping us inventory $102,000 worth of donated goods at our Resource Center last week.  We could not do it without your help, especially our large groups from Alexander Dawson School, The Colorado Tigers Baseball Team and Community Christian School.  Thank you all so much for helping us do more for disadvantaged and displaced children in Colorado.
