Client Stories
It's always beautiful to see a child smile after receiving a new toy, clothing, or books. The joy we see in the families after leaving A Precious Child is amazing, and we love to share some simple moments with you.
As a young child, Ricky 14 remembered the first time he saw the American Flag. He and his mother had just escaped the abusive household of his father and had safely made their way into the United States. His mother told him that here, they would be free. His mother was scared, just having turned 18, she was unsure as to how she would provide for Ricky and herself. Having been dependent upon an abusive boyfriend for so long, she didn't think she had the strength to do it. With the help from family and friends, Ricky and his mom made their way to Colorado to start a new life, free from abuse. When Ricky found out that he was going to be volunteering at A Precious Child for a school community service project he was very vocal to his friends about how he thought A Precious Child was going to be "lame". However, when he saw all of the families that were being helped it reminded him of his own family's situation. An avid sports fan since he was a child, Ricky had always dreamed of playing sports however his family could never afford the cost of equipment. Since we met Ricky, we have been able to help him and his family get new clothing and sporting equipment. By volunteering and receiving help from A Precious Child, Ricky said it helped him realize that his family wasn't alone, that other families were struggling as well. More importantly, he realized that there were people there to help them. With A Precious Child's help, Ricky was able to join a baseball team, something he thought he would never be able to do. |
