The volunteer of the month is Carol Medeiros! Carol, an avid Broncos fan, came to volunteer at A Precious Child last September. Since that time, she has tiredlessly worked to help A Precious Child in any way possible.

Whether it be distributing bins for our A Precious Gift Program or helping clients find the clothes they need in our resource center, Carol brings a bright attitude that makes each client feel special and appreciated. We feel so grateful to have her apart of the A Precious Child team helping make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged and displaced children and families in the community!

Colorado Gives Day was a brilliant success because of YOU! The community banded together and supported their favorite nonprofits. By 12:00pm on December 7, 2011 over $12 million was raised for more than 900 Colorado nonprofits, that's more than 40% from last years total at $8.7 million!

A Precious Child was grateful to be a part of this years Colorado Gives Day. We raised an honorable $12,465 from 79 donors. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! We can't say it enough. Thank you for supporting A Precious Child so that we can give children their most basic needs!

Dear Friends,

HAPPY NEW YEAR! With this New Year comes new goals and events that we, at A Precious Child, are excited to begin.  2011 was a wonderful year; we had many new volunteers, supporters, and friends join our cause. A Precious Child started a new program; giveSPORTS, we accomplished our first Luncheon, and we participated in our first Colorado Gives Day. All of this would never have happened without, YOU. Because of your gracious support we have managed to help more children and families. We could never give you enough thanks for your time and support you have given to A Precious Child, but again, THANK YOU! A Precious Child is excited of its growth in 2011 and we are excited to make 2012 even better!

As the snow keeps falling more children are entering A Precious Child in hopes to find a warm coat, long pants, sweaters, and shoes. We are in dire need of clothing for boys, girls, and babies. children this holiday season! A Precious Child would not be able to manage such a task without the help from thousands in the community, businesses, and our partners! Thank you so much for your kind donations to A Precious Child, and thank you mostly for helping children in need!

Here are a few wonderful stories of our experiences after giving families gifts for their children!

  1. A mom came to pick up her toys for her 14 year old daughter who had asked for (but wasn't expecting to get) a sewing machine. When the sewing machine was brought out the mother started crying, jumping for joy. She then dragged us out to her car to show us all of the scrap cloth material she had pulled from Goodwill and she told us that her daughter wanted the sewing machine so bad because she wanted to start making her own clothes so her mom wouldn't have to spend money on them.
  2. A mother came to pick up her toys and she had a bruised eye. Courtney asked her if everything was alright at home. She began to bawl and explained how she had finally left her abusive husband and was now living at a shelter with her kids. She was grateful, now more than ever, for the toys that she was picking up from A Precious Child so that her kids could still experience some normalcy and joy this Christmas
  3. A family who was put on the christmas list at the last minute wasn't expecting very much when they came to pick up their gifts for their two teenage children. When they were presented with two iPod shuffles and an itunes gift card, both parents began to cry. They hadn't imagined in a million years that they would be able to give their children iPod shuffles. The look of awe and astonishment was soon replaced with tears and smiles.

Without the help from our friends, supporters, businesses, and partners we would have never been able to accomplish such a large task. A Precious Child not only helped our clients, but some of our partners as well. It is heart warming to know a child had a gift under the tree for Christmas because of all of your support. Again, thank you!

Thank you to Alexander Dawson Middle School for donating their time to A Precious Child this holiday season. We were so grateful to have their smiling faces helping us in our toy warehouse. With their help we were able to provide many gifts to less fortunate children. It's great to see children helping children!

Thank you to the City and County of Broomfield Employees

Creativity and generosity ran rampant among the employees of the City and County of Broomfield in December at the annual fundraising that includes Games for Giving, a holiday potluck and silent auction to benefit the less fortunate in town.

Staff members in the various city and county departments put their heads together and designed baskets for the silent auction that would also raise much needed funds.  There were all kinds of offerings: coffee and tea baskets, a fire-pit and accessories to go with it,  an Avalanche basket, a cooking basket, a princess basket, Tupperware baskets, a budget money tree basket complete with Lotto tickets, fitness baskets, a "Cozy Night at Home" basket, and more.  Some threw in other things, too, like Cirque du Soleil tickets, a Kindle, an afghan and jewelry.  In all, there were 44 items to bid on, and employees did bid! The total collected from the day was $1478. The generous employees donated this to help support A Precious Child's A Precious Gift program. This was headed up by Jane Dunlavy and Collen Girard.
