Earlier this month, the RI Campus Compact staff, along with VISTAs Kerry Condon (AICU RI) and Samantha Bergbauer (PC) attended the Eastern Region Campus Compact Conference on Community Impact and Social Responsibility. Leaders from 80 institutions of higher education came together to advance institutional engagement and participate in workshops on campus-community reciprocity and impact, institutional change, and engaged scholarship.

Scholarships for Service: Student Civic Fellows | | To date, RI Campus Compact has enrolled 72 out of 100 college students in the Scholarships for Service (SFS) AmeriCorps Program. SFS members complete 300 hours of community service at local non-profits and receive a $1,175 Education Award.
For 2012-2013 participating campuses include: CCRI, Johnson & Wales, Providence College, Rhode Island College, RISD, Roger Williams University, Salve Regina University and the University of Rhode Island.

Most people I meet have a hard time understanding why I would leave my teaching job and move all the way across the country to become a VISTA. And while I have just as hard a time explaining it, it's definitely not because I disliked my job or career choice. After four years of teaching, I think I just needed a break. (more)

Over 100 college presidents, campus compact staff, and funders from across the country attended the Presidents Leadership Summit in Tennessee on Oct. 16-17.
This past week at the Presidential Leadership Summit in Chattanooga, we were delighted to have Mr. Mike Schmidt, Director of Education and Community Development, from the Ford Motor Company Fund announce their grant of $50,000 to Campus Compact to host a conference this spring in Dearborn, Michigan (Home of Ford Motor Company).
Colleges and universities with exceptional service projects have an opportunity to earn nationwide recognition as the Corporation for National and Community Service opens the application process for the 2012 Presidents' Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. Inclusion on this list is the highest recognition these institutions can receive for community service work.
Volume 16 of the Journal of Higher Education Outreach and Engagement dedicated to The Research Universities and Civic Engagement Network (TRUCEN) is published and available online. Campus Compact was a founder of TRUCEN and has served as the secretariat since 2006.
