Pastor Sheila Blake

Oftentimes we credit wisdom to that of the elderly, or those that have been through many trying circumstances. It is not often that we credit wisdom to children. We think of them as unlearned or immature. Samuel's ear gives us clear insight into the mind of a child that had the wisdom to not only hear the story of Samuel but he listened to the message.

My heart was encouraged as I read this particular story, encouraged to reflect back to the first time I heard God's voice. The first time I received direction from God, and like Bill I didn't have complete clarity on God's expectation, but He was training me to hear His voice. The message of this small voice speaks so loudly to us all as it reminds us of the importance in planting seeds in our children's ears. The words we speak, just like the voice of God heard for the first time, goes with us throughout our lives. Bill spoke of the voice that gave him direction and instruction, even in times when he did not want to obey. But the conviction that comes with knowing God is speaking is much louder than the voice of rebellion.

Even as a child we are wired with the ability to sense the presence and the call of God on our lives. I am most impressed with the response of the teacher, she was attentive to the questions Bill presented to her. The teacher followed up with him with a poem that would encourage him and remind him of God's consistency and would help to keep him humble throughout his life. As men and women of God it is most important that we ourselves are listening to the voice of God. For how can we help and direct others on this topic if we have not developed the intimate relationship with our Creator. We must be careful to attend to the 'young' Christians as they begin their walk with Christ.

It is imperative that we plant seeds of love, hope and prosperity. Seeds that will take root and grow with them through the duration of their lives. Seeds that can be reflected upon, that will bear fruit of grace and consistency. I have submitted my life to be a hearer of God's voice and I will continue to sow seeds into our youth of today who will grow to be our Church of tomorrow.
