Profiles in Preservation: Pozzi Ranch  
Valley Ford sheep ranch produces pasture-raised lamb and wool 
    
A long, winding road separates Pozzi Ranch from the rest of the world. Sheep graze in pastures that line the road, which ends at a turn of the century home and barns. Fourth generation West Marin rancher Joe Pozzi runs this MALT-protected sheep and cattle ranch that supplies 100 percent grass-fed and pasture-raised lamb to Whole Foods Markets in Northern California.  Joe also markets his, and many other local ranchers', wool to natural bedding companies and Pendleton Woolen Mills, which weaves the wool into fabric for Joe's wool program.  Read on...

Intimate Dinners Pair Bay Area Chefs with Local Farmers and Ranchers 
  
On Saturday, June 29 at Pozzi Ranch MALT will launch the first in a series of summer suppers on local farms and ranches. These unforgettable evenings with local farmers and Bay Area chefs will highlight foods grown in Marin and raise funds for farmland protection.  Our field to fork Pozzi Ranch dinner is nearly sold out. Thistle Pull Hoedown on Black Mountain Ranch
Friday, June 21, 1-5 p.m.     

 

Come share an afternoon of work, food and bluegrass music at Black Mountain Ranch.  Help pull invasive woolly distaff thistle alongside our Stewardship team and other MALT supporters.  This community effort to control this non-native plant from the pastures makes all the difference!  A ranch-style BBQ and live bluegrass music will help us celebrate after a day's work together.  More information and to register...

Spaletta Ranch Hike with Coastal Picnic
Sunday, June 23, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.   

 

Bring the family out for a beautiful 4 mile roundtrip hike on Spaletta Ranch.  Located on bluffs overlooking the Estero Americano and the Pacific Ocean, this ranch is one of the few MALT-protected ranches with coastal access. Stewardship staff and guest naturalists will point out the unique coastal resources on the ranch as we walk down to the beach and picnic while taking in the spectacular views where farm meets ocean.  More information and to register...

"Rebels with a Cause" opens June 7 for a one-week run in select Bay Area theaters.  If you haven't seen this award-winning documentary about how Marin's open space and farmland were saved by a group of "unpaid and crazy" citizens (including MALT's own co- founders Ellen Straus and Phyllis Faber), now's your chance!

 

Join MALT Executive Director Jamison Watts at Marin Conservation League's Business-Environment Breakfast on Friday, June 14 in San Rafael. He'll discuss the new mandatory agricultural use provisions in MALT's easements, and answer audience questions after the presentation.  

 

Celebrate the opening of Point Reyes Farmers Market's new season at Saltwater Oyster Bar and Restaurant on Tuesday, June 18.  Feast on the early summer offerings of our local bounty and raise funds for the Market's 2013 season which starts on Saturday, June 22.
