The Anthroposophical Society in Canada is a not-for-profit organization, and is required by law to apply for a Certificate of Continuance by October 2014, and to file our bylaws in order to keep our status as a non-profit. We are taking this as an opportunity also to review the statement of our purpose and are calling on all members to be part of this research.
In 1953 we were granted our charter for the Society in Canada. At that time, we stated one of our purposes to be:
"To promote and foster the study of the science of Anthroposophy and the dissemination of its principles, according to the teachings of Dr. Rudolf Steiner, and thereby to promote and foster the development of human brotherhood and the moral, artistic and cultural life of humanity."
This was 60 years ago. Is this purpose still relevant today? Maybe it is. Maybe there are some changes to make. Today we are in a different world. Steiner's books, and information about Anthroposophy is readily available to everybody, on the internet, through Amazon. If we think about it today, what is the purpose of the Society now, and moving into the future?
This question is being carried and was researched by members at the last AGM in Montreal, and most recently in Ottawa where the Council met over Thanksgiving weekend.
At this time, we would like to work with this question in Toronto and warmly invite you to come to a gathering for the purpose of reviewing together the purpose of the Anthroposophical Society in Canada and its wording in the charter.
Dorothy LeBaron and Regine Kurek are inviting all members to join us in a guided process to work with the question of our purpose. This will include an artistic process.
