Letter from the General Secretary
- Arie van Ameringen
...The Heart of the Turtle: I spent the first week of March in Ottawa, where I met with members of the Confluence of the Three Rivers branch as well as with parents and teachers from both the Ottawa Waldorf School and the Trille des Bois school.
During the gathering with branch members we brought up the possibility of organizing a large-scale Society event. The members present showed great enthusiasm for the idea of hosting an international conference, and discussed setting up an interactive media site that would play an integral part in the preparation of the event. This project is still in its very first stages, and I hope to be able to give you more details about this initiative as they emerge. Several members guided me on a tour of Victoria Island, which is located directly facing the Parliament buildings. This site has a particularly symbolic significance, being an ancestral meeting place where Algonquins and other tribes gathered. And it is perhaps not by chance that the Parliament buildings were erected in their present location. Owing to the powerful vortex caused by the rapids (whose current has now been significantly reduced by a dam), several First Nations peoples considered the site to be a sacred meeting place...Read full article.

A core group to care for the transition of the National Library into a future step has been formed. Thank-you to Rob MacKay, Grant Davis, Leita McDowell, Doug Wylie, Kathy Grant, and Dorothy LeBaron for carrying this project. The group is using the "U" process (from Otto Scharmer's work), as a way to co-sense into the future of the library. It is a phenomenological way of working, where we let go of our assumptions about what we think needs to happen with the library, we observe and research together, try and pay attention to what wants to emerge, and then take steps towards the future. In our first meeting, we built our common intent, and worked artistically together to form the group. We had a presentation by Alexandra Gunther about the history of the library. We then did research interviews with people connected to local anthroposophical libraries across Canada, and the Rudolf Steiner Library in the U.S.A. to bring a wider context. In our second meeting we shared our research, trying to deeply listen for key issues. The core group will meet three more times over the next few months. If any members would like to get in touch with us about your ideas, hopes or concerns, we would be happy to hear from you. Dorothy's email
