On December 16, 2013, the IRS published Notice 2014-01, which contains a 10-question FAQ on issues related to the same-sex marriage case of the U.S. v. Windsor.
Previously, the IRS issued Revenue Ruling 2013-17, which made three main points about the June 26, 2013 Windsor ruling for federal tax purposes.

ACA Minimum Essential Coverage and Shared Responsibility Reporting and Disclosure Requirements

Key points for plan sponsors to remember:

  1. Insurance companies will be responsible for the reporting and disclosure for insured plans; employers will be responsible for the reporting and disclosure for self-insured plans, but may outsource the requirement to their third-party administrator.
  2. The reporting is on a calendar-year basis regardless of the plan or policy year.
  3. A written statement must be provided to the individuals/employees included in the IRS reports.
  4. The reports and statements are first due in 2016; the filing due date is the same as W-2 and 1099 reporting.

The Work@HealthTM training program provides employers with the
knowledge and tools to promote good health in the workplace to prevent or reduce chronic illness and disability while improving productivity and overall competitiveness. Selected employers also receive technical assistance and up to $5,000. Training begins in early 2014 (February-April).
