Health Care Reform: Large Employer and the New Health Insurance Exchanges

Historically, employers have adopted a number of strategies intended to control the ever-increasing cost of health care, including self-insuring their own employees' health risks, implementing wellness programs, and shifting more and more costs to their employees. In the wake of the enactment of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), employers are examining a number of new strategies to control costs (e.g., "private" health insurance exchanges).

CDC Introduces New Worksite Health ScoreCard
The newly released CDC Worksite Health ScoreCard (HSC) is a tool designed to help employers assess the extent to which they have implemented evidence-based health promotion interventions in their worksites. The HSC has been determined to be a valid and reliable tool for employers to use in assessing health promotion programs aimed at preventing heart disease, stroke and related conditions among employees. During a recent webinar hosted by HPLive, staff from the CDC who developed the HSC provided an overview of its development and demonstrated how to use the tool. They described: 1) how the CDC HSC was developed and tested, 2) how the CDC HSC can be used by employers and other organizations to conduct workplace health assessments, and 3) other tools and resources that support taking action based on the results of the HSC.

The webinar is available on demand and is available at no charge. Simply click on this link and click on the "Recording" tab to view the webinar. HPLive offers free weekly webinars with nationally and internationally recognized experts on topics that are important to professionals in health promotion and related fields.
