Pio Cesare "L'Altro" Chardonnay 2014
$28.95 per bottle, cases of 12

Pio Cesare was one of the first wineries to plant Chardonnay in the Langhe, now it is a mainstay of most wineries.  L'Altro is to me like "Italian Chablis" if I may be so bold.  Densely fruited, bright and juicy - this is simply excellent.

"Fresh, clean style chardonnay with sliced apple, cooked peach and hints of minerals. Full-bodied, bright and clean with a lively finish. Mostly fermented and aged in stainless steel vats with a touch of the blend barrel-fermented. Drink now."

Falchini Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG
"Vigna a Solatio" 2014
$21.95 per bottle, cases of 12

Vernaccia di San Gimignano is Tuscany's only white wine DOCG and Falchini is regarded as producing the greatest examples.

Vernaccia is the grape, San Gimignano is the "City of Beautiful Towers".  Brilliant light gold, it has a subtle complexity of aromas; green pears, green apple, fresh herbs and crushed quarry stone. It is dry and just medium bodied, the acidity is bright and makes the wine incredibly refreshing. The finish is persistent and balanced with a hint of bitter almond.  If you like exploring the indigenous varietals of Italy such as Greco di Tufo, Falanghina and Arneis, this might be just your kind of adventure.

We carry this wine only during the warm months and it is excellent with anything light, like summer salads, fried calamari, soft cheeses or simply as an apertif.

Pouilly_Fuisse

Domaine Roger Luquet Pouilly-Fuissé 2014
$35.95 per 750ml bottle, cases of 12
$20.95 per 375ml bottle, cases of 12

The Mâconnais region of Burgundy is home to some of the best value wines in the region.  Some wineries, like Domaine Roger Luquet can boast about their soils which are very similar to those found in Chablis.

This is perfect for Chardonnay and because Pouilly-Fuissé is warmer than Chablis, the fruit attains an extra level of ripeness.  This bottling is fermented in stainless steel and rests on the lees until bottling to build more mid-palate richness and to add the slightest hint of brioche-like notes.

This is an excellent Chardonnay and drinks very well from the day you bring it home to about 3-4 years from the vintage.

Union Wine Company
"Underwood" Oregon Pinot Gris 2014
$24.95 per bottle, cases of 12

First planted in 1966, Pinot Gris has found a home in the rolling bucolic hills of western Oregon.  Today it is the state's #1 white varietal and "Underwood" from Union Wine Company represents excellent value.

There is a food friendliness to Pinot Gris that makes it irresistible.  More citrusy than Pinot Grigio but similarly fruity - aromas of ripe pear, key lime, fragrant white flowers and sweet figs entice the nose. Peach, cantaloupe, grapefruit and more pear embrace the palate in silkiness, which sails into a lengthy, and refreshingly satisfying finish.

I can picture it now - sitting poolside, a big tub of ice with bottles of Underwood Pinot Gris bobbing around in the sun  while the chefs attend to the barbecue.  It really is just around the corner!

Zephyr Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2014
$25.95 per bottle, cases of 12

In 1985 the Glover family saw what was happening in their corner of the wine world and decided to plant their 3rd generation farm to wine grapes, most notably Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.  Thirty years later their gamble clearly has paid off as they are among the most respected producers in the industry.

Expect nothing short of flamboyant aromatics from this "sauvage" beauty - citrus, coriander, lemonade, grapefruit.  On the palate it brings gentle minerality, refreshing acidity and a fleshy mouthfeel.  Aren't you tired of the same old brands from New Zealand? - try something new today.

"This is impressively fruited and fabulously good drinking. It's filled tasty stone fruit, lemon zest and rockmelon with subtle herbal influence. The palate is full, generous and long with plenty of succulent flavours. At its best: now to 2018."

Hunter's Marlborough Pinot Noir 2013
$23.95 per bottle, cases of 12

Hunter's is the oldest family-owned winery in Marlborough, New Zealand.  Their techniques to produce this wine are "old-school" and time consuming.  The wine is made in small batches, some of the wine completes fermentation in new oak barrels.  Portions of the wines are aged in barrels of varying ages, and the barrels are fined with egg whites before bottling.  This attention to detail produces an exceptional value Pinot Noir perfect for grilled white meats and salmon.

"A gently expressed pinot showing red cherry, plum, clove and a touch of dried herb complexity on the nose. It is juicy and rounded on the palate with attractive fruit weight, backed by fine tannins. The wine shows lovely balance and harmony, with elegance and softness, finishing lingering and pleasingly dry."

4 STARS - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jun 2015

"Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with lighter garnet hues on edge. This has a full and broad bouquet with deep and densely packed aromas of savoury dark red berry fruit along with piquant fresh herbs, along with secondary development notes of earth, dried herbs and undergrowth. Some soft red florals emerge with aeration. Medium-full bodied, rich and savoury dark red berry fruit flavours are melded with secondary earth, dried herb and undergrowth complexities. Some layers of game, spice and florals unfold. This has a deep core, supported by softly dry, grainy textured tannins, providing structure and balance to the fruit sweetness. There is good acid energy and drive that carries the solid palate to a dry, savoury, earthy fruited finish. This is a full, solidly packed, savoury fruited Pinot Noir with some development and dry structure."

Angeline
"Reserve" Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
$24.95 per bottle, cases of 12

Occasionally you want just an uncomplicated Cabernet Sauvignon to pour with burgers, ribs, porkchops and fried chicken, that sort of fare.  That wine should be (A) medium-full bodied (B) dry and rich yet not tannic and (C) aromatic with notes of cassis and vanilla and flavours of dark berries, earthiness and a nice toasty finish.  Angeline Reserve is just that wine!

The fruit comes predominantly from Sonoma County and the wine is made at the same winery and by the same team that produces Martin Ray wines. If you like Avalon Cabernet or J. Lohr give Angeline "Reserve" a try.  We're sure you'll find plenty to like about it.

Duckhorn "Decoy"
Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
$34.95 per bottle, cases of 12

Duckhorn's reputation was built on Bordeaux varietals grown in Napa Valley.  As part of developing "Decoy" the winery began sourcing fruit from Sonoma County in Alexander Valley's renowned Ridgeline Vineyard.  In 2012 Duckhorn purchased the property outright and now it provides the core fruit for these exceptional value wines.

The winery likes to call this "The everyday wine for the well-informed." I like to call it a heckuvalot of Cabernet for 35 bucks.

"This very dark ruby coloured Cabernet Sauvignon opens with a pomegranate bouquet with hints of flint. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced and friendly. The flavour profile is a mild smoky cedar and gentle plum with hints of black raspberry and minerality. The finish is dry and mild tannins and flavours fade away nicely. This Cab seems more Old World in style vs. your typical California Cab. That does make it more versatile with food. I would say it is a nice glass pour option and I would pair it with a juicy Angus bacon burger or beef Burgundy. Enjoy."

Ridge "Three Valleys"
Sonoma County Zinfandel 2013
$37.95 per bottle, cases of 12

Ridge Vineyards is simply one of California's great wineries.  The names Monte Bello, Lytton Springs and Geyserville transcend wine-speak.

"Three Valleys" is the only multi-vineyard wine they produce.  It is sourced from vineyards in the Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley and Alexander Valleys of Sonoma County.  Each appellation brings its own palate of flavours and textures to the wine and by blending in a little Carignane,  Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet the winemakers add even more aromatics and weight.

Though the masses of dark juicy fruit are apparent and very "Californian", the wine finishes like a dry Rhone-valley red.   This wine is my go-to Zinfandel.

"The 2013 Three Valleys has lots of berry fruits, bramble, spice-box and licorice in its medium-bodied, supple, nicely textured and delicious profile. It doesn't have the structure or depth of the Lytton Springs [$60], but it's a full-flavoured, delicious wine to drink over the coming 7-8 years."

Saint Jean du Barroux "L'Argile" 2013
$38.95 per bottle, cases of 12
**ONLY 5 CASES REMAIN**

Ventoux is an exciting region in the south of France where old-vine Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault grow organically and where some vignerons like Philippe Gimel allow the ancient terroir to sing loudly. This wine sees no oak, simply being raised in cement tanks.  The natural acidity, tannins and richness comes straight from the grapes and makes for a perfumed, full bodied red with grip and drinkability. I highly recommend this wine to any Chateauneuf-du-Pape or Priorato fan.

"The 2013 L'Argile is 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah and then 5% each of Carignan and Cinsault, all of which was aged two years in concrete tanks. It has a sappy, perfumed bouquet of white pepper, rose petals, kirsch, raspberries and pine that gives way to a medium to full-bodied, elegant, seamless profile on the palate. I love its tannin quality, and it has fabulous length on the finish as well. This beauty will be better in 2-3 years and have 15 years of overall longevity. Drink 2017-2028."

Duckhorn "Migration"
Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2013
$46.95 per bottle, cases of 12

When I think of Pinot Noirs from the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County I think of "walking through a conifer forest eating cherries."  It's the scent of pine needles, wet earth, underbrush and chlorophyll in behind bright cherry, raspberry fruit flavours that defines this region's wines for me.  The wines should also be aromatic, dry and gentle on the palate - delivering more satisfaction in the finish than upon first sip.  Migration is textbook R.R.V. Pinot!

"Earthy in a way that's almost savage, this wine's bouquet discloses layers of cooked mushroom and forest floor, the texture velvety smooth. The grapes hail from the Green Valley appellation within the larger Russian River Valley, with minerality that's crisp and buoyant. The finish shows some of the oak."

91 points, Wine Enthusiast, Dec 2015

"The three Pinot Noirs I tasted include the 2013 Pinot Noir Russian River. This wine shows nice pomegranate, black cherry and Red Delicious apple skin notes in a round, juicy, sexy style. It is medium/dark ruby, lush, with moderate concentration and is irresistible. Drink it over the next 2-3 years."

Chateau Montelena
Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
$75.95 per bottle, cases of 12

Classicaly styled Cabernet from a blue-chip winery in a great vintage.  Boom!  Easy decision.  The 2012 is a perfect wine for those nights when you lay a huge, nicely-marbeled steak on the grill and need a full bodied red with ripe tannins to enjoy with it.  There is plenty to like here and this wine should sail along, maturing nicely for over a decade.

"The 2012 Montelena Cabernet is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. The wine was aged 14 months in French & Eastern European Oak (16% new). It opens with aromas of red bell pepper, dill, blackberry and milk chocolate. This leads to flavours of blackberry, black cherry, black olive and cloves. Lovely mouthfeel and mineral backbone. Done in the open style, this is approachable right now and is delicious right out of the bottle. (Best 2015-2025) "

Quintessa

Quintessa 2012
Rutherford Napa Valley Red Wine
$209.95 per bottle, cases of 6

At some point in the summer you'll find yourself in need of something spectacular and Quintessa 2012 is just that!  A single-vineyard estate in the heart of Rutherford.  It was planted to virgin land and has always been farmed biodynamically.  This is an outrageous wine, a highly polished, smooth, full bodied Cabernet that is drinking really nicely now but will reward decades of patience as well.

"Fabulous aromas of blackberry, tile and clay. Porcini undertones. Full-bodied, tight and polished with refined tannins and a long, long finish. Racy and beautiful. So long and linear. Goes on for minutes."

96 points, JamesSuckling.com, July 2015

"The outstanding 2012 Proprietary Red Blend Quintessa is composed of Bordeaux varietals dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon followed by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Carmenère. One of the strongest efforts to date from this winery, it possesses a deep ruby/purple colour as well as abundant aromas of sweet white chocolate, acacia flowers, and black and red fruits, full-bodied opulence, velvety tannins, and enough acidity to provide freshness and focus. It can be drunk now or cellared for another 10-15+ years."
