PRESENTS

Oregon's Icon
Domaine Serene

August 2015

We are super excited to tell you that Rogers & Company now represents Domaine Serene in Ontario!

Founded in 1989 by Ken and Grace Evenstad, Domaine Serene has quickly become Oregon's iconic producer of world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, including Oregon's highest-ever rated Pinot Noir.

Located in the heart of the Willamette Valley, Domaine Serene's picturesque winery houses one of the world's most advanced winemaking facilities.  With 4 vineyard estates totalling over 700 acres, 200 acres are planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.  Domaine Serene's environmentally friendly sustainable farming practices and extremely low crop yields produce consistently complex and complete, award winning wines.

"........they are polished wines true to their respective terroirs, having tasted a number of older vintages in the UK over the years, they should be afforded cellaring and good vintages evolve rewarding and engaging secondary aromas and flavours, as evidenced by the Evenstad Reserve Pinot Noir 1992 - over two decades old and still going strong."
Neal Martin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, March 2015

Please let me know if you would like to reserve any cases.  Delivery would be in the fall of 2015, no payment is needed up front, and the prices are best estimates at this time, subject to slight changes.

Domaine Serene
"Evenstad Reserve" Chardonnay 2013
$93.95 per bottle, cases of 6

The Evenstad Reserve is the flagship Chardonnay of Domaine Serene and is blended from selected barrels of the estate vineyard sites in the Dundee Hills.  These soils give life to elegant, balanced and silky wines year after year.

The 2013 Evenstad Reserve Chardonnay offers a complex bouquet of aromas that develop from citrus fruit to floral. It is characterized by notes of minerality, lemon meringue and citrus zest. On the palate, the wine shows lovely purity and length, with the right balance of weight and acidity and a long and persistent finish.

The 2013 is new to market, and not yet reviewed, but the 2012 received the following:

"A white with such wild aromas of spice, almonds, cream and sliced apples. Hints of creamy cheese too. Very complex. Full body, rich and powerful with loads of fruit, but has a bright, minerally and fresh finish. This shows the wonderful balance and complexity of a top white from the cool climate of Oregon. Drink now."

"The 2012 Chardonnay Evenstad Reserve was picked October 10-18: a narrow picking window according to winemaker Erik Kramer. It is 100% whole-cluster fruit and matured in 25% new wood and less lees-stirring than in recent vintages. There is plentiful richness on the nose with notes of clear honey, white peach and subtle marzipan scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a very harmonious texture, a gentle spicy note on the entry, with dried lemon peel and lemongrass enlivening the finish while retaining admirable focus. Excellent."

Domaine Serene
"Evenstad Reserve" Pinot Noir 2012
$123.95 per bottle, cases of 6

Consistently excellent from vintage to vintage, the flagship wine is the defining standard by which all of the Pinot Noirs are measured.  A true illustration of the art of blending, the Evenstad Reserve Pinot Noir from the prized 2012 vintage is a wonderfully complex yet reserved wine that delivers intriguing notes of black cherry, cloves, nutmeg and cocoa. In the mouth, the wine delivers brooding depth and concentration, rich and silky tannins and great persistence.

"This includes grapes from the winery's Jerusalem Hill vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA, in addition to the Dundee Hills sites, hence the more general Willamette Valley designation. It was aged in 65% new French oak for 16 months. It is open and generous, offering bright berry, cherry and red currant fruit matched to defining acids, all set in a fine-tuned frame."

"The 2012 Pinot Noir Evenstad Reserve was picked from late summer after one of the driest on record. There was better heat accumulation, according to Erik Kramer, but he does not regard it has a hot vintage. It was a low yield at around 1.7 and 1.8 tons per acre, partly due to a pre-flowering cluster removal. The skin-to-pulp ratio was very high and it was raised in 65% new oak over 16 months. It has a deep garnet colour. The bouquet is in stark contrast with strawberry pastille and raspberry coulis, hints of iodine developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe red berry fruit interlaced with sea salt and white pepper. There is an undercurrent of gaminess to this 2012 that lends intrigue toward the finish that gently grips the mouth. Not as opulent as other 2012 Pinot Noirs that I have tasted, but clearly very well crafted by winemaker Erik Kramer and with a prosperous future ahead."

Domaine Serene
Willamette Valley "Yamhill Cuvee"
Pinot Noir 2012
$74.95 per bottle, cases of 12

The Yamhill Cuvée has an aroma profile of red fruits, minerals, spice, earth, and hint of French Oak. The palate offers youthful tannins and balanced acidity which leads to a smooth and graceful finish. It is approachable in its youth, while maintaining the elegance and finesse of a Domaine Serene Pinot Noir.

"Gorgeous pinot with dried strawberry and spice character. Full body, soft tannins, and remains fresh and lively. Lovely combination of ripe fruit and acidity. Drink or hold."
93 points, JamesSuckling.com, July 2015

"This cuvée offers the pleasures of sweet, sappy red fruits, soft tannins and broad swaths of caramel, toasted hazelnuts and mocha. It coats the tongue with flavour and has a sort of insistence that the next sip will be even better."
