March 20, 2016
There are snowflakes falling, and we're sipping hot cocoa - must be spring in the Lehigh Valley (the groundhog said so)! With that, can summer be far behind?
Check out our popular Summer at Swain program!
We've put together another summer of fun classes, all led by Swain faculty. Until Thursday, March 31, you can enjoy an early bird discount by registering for:
- Broadway Camp
Did your child enjoy our production of Alice in Wonderland? Whether onstage or in the audience, here's a chance for current 4th-8th graders to work with drama teacher Veronica Bocian. During this weeklong, all-day camp, they'll sing, act and move in preparation for a performance for friends and family!
- Programs in Swain's Makerspace,
The Imaginate Center
If your child loves her time in the Makerspace, check out the variety of programs Michele Archer, director of the Makerspace program, has lined up! There are opportunities for all ages (current K-8), including Robotics 1 & 2, Making Jewelry, 3D Design, "Reverse" Engineering, and Creating/Building in the Makerspace.
-
Aerospace
Middle School science teacher Jen Mitchell will be joined by Swain Dad and former NASA astronaut Terry Hart to explore space and flight. Campers will learn about aerodynamics associated with airplanes, space shuttles, and even some feathered friends, and take field trips to the Lehigh Valley International Airport and Lehigh University's aerospace lab. For current 4th-8th graders.
- World Peace Game
Back by popular request! Led by 4th grade teacher Karin Reger and MS teacher Chris Burns, the World Peace Game is a hands-on political simula-tion that gives players the opportunity to explore the connectedness of the global community and the imminent threat of war. Current 3rd-8th graders: help save the world! -
Wow! Science Experiments Another popular camp will be led by lower school teachers Sarah Kleppinger and Stacey Pugh. Campers (current 2nd-4th graders) will have fun with a wide variety of experiments about weather, cooking, and even launching rockets!
-
Kiddie Fitness & Mini Scientists Lower School science teacher Heather Weiss will welcome younger students to her new Kiddie Fitness (current PS-K) and Mini Scientists (PK-1) adventures!
-
Math Magic & Crafts 'n Creations Miss K again, with two fun classes for current 1st-4th graders! Each is a half-day class during the same week, so make a day of it - she'll really put the 'magic' in math, and then learn about crafting from the mastermind behind those colorful costumes for Alice in Wonderland!
- Outdoor Adventurers
Mrs. Mitchell will lead current 4th-8th graders naturalists, particularly those interested in the outdoors, survival tactics and getting their hands dirty.
- Arts & Crafts for
Little Ones
Preschool teachers Lisa Campbell and Batool Viqar are back with their day-long adventure in arts and crafts! For current PS-K students, this is a great way to embrace their inner O'Keefe!
This week on social media
It was a big week on Facebook and Twitter, and we appreciate your involvement in our interactive community! Today we posted links to the albums from the 6th-8th grade production of Alice in Wonderland - thanks to all in our community who supported this great effort by our students!
