Greetings!

As we start the new school year, we thought we'd acquaint you with all the many ways we share news of the Swain community.

Most of these can be reached by going to the Swain website and clicking on the appropriate link in the upper right hand corner. Of course the website itself has a lot of news and information, which we hope you will check out on a regular basis.

Swain Stories

This weekly e-newsletter is sent out by 7 p.m. (most) Sunday evenings, to share news and activities of the previous week - although sometimes we will focus on just one aspect of Swain.

You can check out earlier editions of Swain Stories by going to the "Newsletters" link on any Swain website page. This is a good way to learn more about us.

Facebook

We have a lot of fun with Swain's Facebook page,
This Kindergarten student's summer reading paper chain was our most active post of this previous week.
and use it as a 'window to our world' for those who are not on campus. We love to share photos and videos - sometimes as things are happening - and appreciate it when you like, share, and/or comment so others learn more about Swain.

We also use Facebook to share information about our alumni, what our students and faculty/staff are up to 'off campus', and articles and news of interest to the Swain community.

You do not need your own Facebook account to join in - simply click on the "Facebook" link on the Swain website, or visit facebook.com/theswainschool.

Twitter

For those of you in the Twitter world, Swain has two Twitter accounts - @TheSwainSchool and @SwainSchoolEDU.

The first one includes all the info we share on Facebook along with some retweets from other schools and friends. The second one includes interesting articles, photos and comments related to education and parenting.

Some members of our faculty have set up - and others are in the process of setting up - Twitter accounts of their own, to share news from their classrooms. When that list is finalized we will share it on the Swain website Twitter page.

Video

We are currently using a website called "Vimeo" to post videos of our school in action. Sometimes we also post them on Facebook and Twitter.

If you shoot a video of a school event, please consider sharing it with us - you can contact us at info@swain.org.

Photos

Mrs. Scerbo posted photos of her 2nd graders presenting items from their "Me" bags.
Have you heard the fun name "SmugMug"? That is the name of the service we use to share photo galleries on our Swain website.

You can see hundreds of photos in our "Events", "Sports" and "Theatre" galleries - these go back several years.

Our classroom teachers and specialists also have their own galleries - they love to take photos of their students 'in action' and share them. We encourage you to check your children's teachers' galleries often!

The "Art of Teaching" Blog and Microsite

This special initiative is the work of talented photographer Theo Anderson, who captures the magic of Swain on his frequent rounds through our school.

He has gathered many of his images into a microsite called "Art of Teaching", and in his blog of the same name, he interviews Swain teachers for more insight into why - and how - they teach.

We encourage you to subscribe to the blog; you can find a link on the Swain website homepage, in the "News" section.

And there's more...

In addition to these resources, we also have a fabulous yearbook (given to each student in early June), the bulletin boards and display monitors around the school, classroom newsletters, and Swain Matters, a twice-yearly news magazine.

Thanks for reading, and have a great week!
