Greetings!

The weather hit us hard this week, with two delays and a snow day (and yesterday's big storm). However we still managed to create some wonderful memories.

Second graders created their own scrapbooks with information about "My Community", then shared them with their classmates. A lot of creativity went into these projects!

The fourth graders in Mrs. Reger's class met up with their buddies in Mrs. Akers' and Mrs. Johnson's Prekindergarten class, for a little math fun. Each student was given a gingerbread cookie and asked to take a bite - then they graphed how many students had taken a bite from the head, arm or leg. Everyone but one had taken a bite from the head (one bit the arm). That was an interesting graph! (Click photo for more images.)

Kindergarten students enjoyed
Mrs. Henning's annual Holiday Obstacle Course. They were assisted by 7th graders from Mrs. Getty's wellness class.

The older students helped the younger students navigate a variety of activities designed to help the Kindergarten students develop their motor skills. Great fun was had by all!

More buddy fun - this time
Ms. Hanlund's and Ms. Sesh's Kindergarten class was joined by
Mrs. Monahan's first graders for a Writing Celebration. They each read their buddies a true story or small moment they had written, and gave each other a star (compliment) and a wish (something they would like to see more of in their stories). Click on photo for more images.

And not all the fun is during the regular school day - the students who stay after school for Extended Care have been making giant domino creations, enjoying intense Uno games, and learning about the history
of Chanukah.

We wrapped up the week with a special "Dress Down Day" declared by the Veluz family - Emma, Sofie and Jack - an opportunity they won at last spring's Auction. Everyone was happy about that!

The eighth graders were not so happy, however, to say good-bye on Friday to Monee, our Guate-malan ambassador who has finished her two-month stay at Swain. We will miss her big smile, and we hope she will stay in touch with us!

Thanks for sharing our Swain adventures with us, and have a great week!
