Greetings!

Let's join our Swain students in a week of hands-on fun and learning!

Our Kindergarten students recently traveled to Pool Wildlife Sanctuary for a day of hiking, exploring, and hands-on activities, like dipping wicks in wax to create candles.

Mrs. Akers and Mrs. Johnson
have created a new dramatic play area in their classroom, "Swain's Little Bakery". The Prekinder-garten students are enjoying the opportunities to measure, "bake", serve, and even write the recipes.

And  more good smells are coming from the PK area, as Mrs. Takacs' and Mrs. Hollenbeck's PK class welcomed their 5th grade buddies from Mrs. Coverley's class. They read "The Gingerbread Man", made gingerbread houses together, and even snacked on gingerbread treats!

Fifth grade scientists welcomed visitors to their Science Expo, where they did a number of hands-on activities and engineered some projects of their own.

Building tall towers of newspaper, water activities, and using the iPads were some of the featured projects.

A favorite activity in Mrs. Gruber's seventh grade English class is to have each student write and illustrate a children's book, then visit the classrooms of younger students to read them aloud. Titles such as
"Jack's Problem", "The Lollipop",
and
"Melanie's Miraculous Day!"
were enjoyed by the young audiences.

More hands-on fun, this time at the DaVinci Center, the destination for our first grade classes.

The students enjoyed a lot of fun activities, including a hands-on "Walk Like a Dinosaur" workshop!
