Greetings!
It was another busy week at The Swain School, full of learning, fun and community-building (not to mention some really gorgeous weather!).
Field Trips!
The beautiful fall weather has been perfect for the start of our fall field trips. This week Prekindergarten students, along with many parent chaperones, visited Grim's Farm, where they encountered apple trees, pumpkin patches and a mini-barnyard of animals. At the fall market, they were treated to apple cider slushies and the students really enjoyed climbing hay bales and going through the hay bale maze. More photos of the triop can be found on Mrs. Akers' and Mrs. Takacs' Smug Mug galleries in the PK section of Swain's photo galleries.
 Buddies!
The Swain School has a thriving "buddy program" in which classes of students in older grades visit and get to know classes of students in younger grades throughout the school year. Buddies are assigned to each other for the entire school year. When buddy classes get together, they often do crafts, read to each other, work on projects related to the virtue of the month or just go outside and play. Here, third graders in Mrs. Pugh's class enjoy reading to their Preschool buddy.
Building Community!
On Saturday, Swain hosted fellow independent school Wyoming Seminary for morning field hockey and soccer scrimmages, followed by a wonderful picnic lunch for all of the families from both teams. Swain staff and volunteers grilled hundreds of hotdogs, hamburgers and veggie burgers, made lemonade and served fruits, veggies, chips and brownies to hungry athletes and parents.
Many Swain Alumni were on hand to support younger siblings on the sports teams and to reconnect with faculty, staff, parents and each other, as they showed their Swain pride.
Thank you to Swain's Athletic Director Mrs. Werner and the day's volunteer organizer Ms. DeFiore for creating such a special event!
