We finished up our last week before Spring Break with a bang - as always, a lot of exciting events and learning going on at Swain. And make sure you scroll to the bottom to read about some of our Swain kids.
See the photos from The Little Mermaid
Julia Getty not only decorated the amazing set of last weekend's middle school production, she took literally hundreds of photos of the show.
Enjoy photos from the dress rehearsal, backstage, and the Saturday matinee - just click on this photo to go to our SmugMug gallery.
And preserve the memory of Swain's show - order a DVD of the production for $25. Please note that the order needs to be sent directly to the videographer, Mike Reiner - DVDs will be sent directly to you.
Second Grade "Book Jacket" Fashion Show
Each year second grade teachers Kellie Cole and Carol Scerbo ask their students to prepare a number of book reports - so instead of a boring paper-and-pencil report, they ask them to create a 'book jacket' that the students can actually wear. The students present these in the popular annual "Book Jacket" Fashion Show, held this past Wednesday. Each reporter gives an overview of his or her book to the appreciative crowd, then the whole class struts their stuff on the 'runway'. Click on the picture for more photos.
"Sink Brain Tumors" Assembly
Students and faculty/staff rallied around third grader Jack (center), supported PCFLV (the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley) and explored the monthly virtue of perseverance on "Wear Grey For Jack Day" on Thursday.

And more on-stage drama...
At Swain, it's not just the middle school students who are taking to the stage! On Friday, Mrs. Stout's and Mrs. Loar's Kinder-garten class presented a dramatic presentation of the book Peace and Quiet - and as we begin our Spring Break, we wish you a little peace and quiet too! Swain Students: Off-Campus
Northampton Community College held a chess tournament this weekend, and Swain was well-represented. Second grader Jack Hickey (right) won first for 8-year-olds, and fourth grader Leland Hargrow (center) won the 10-year-old division. Jack's older brother Sean (left), also in fourth grade, won three rounds but lost his last two matches. Jack's mom reports that Jack actually beat some 9-year-olds as well. This was six hours of chess - talk about perseverance!
