Welcome to this week's edition of Swain Stories, where we're shining the light on two of our specials - art and Spanish.

These specials are just two of the many 'big opportunities' enjoyed by Swain students - they also benefit from classes in drama, instrumental and vocal music, and library, as well as learning from specialists in science, poetry and wellness.

Visiting Artist-in-Residence Ann Lalik

Swain art students in grades K-8 enjoyed a special opportunity with visiting artist-in-residence Ann Lalik this past week.

Ms. Lalik specializes in metalworking and jewelry making, and shared her passion and expertise with our students.
Here, she models a necklace she has crafted as a one-of-a-kind donation to the Swain Auction on April 27.

Click this photo to see more pictures from Mrs. Gaugler's first grade class visit with Ms. Lalik. They combined their study of Chinese scrolls with learning about making jewelry!

Many thanks to the Borgenicht Foundation for making this residency possible.

Lower School Spanish

Lower School students are lucky to start their language studies in Kindergarten with Senorita Parente. They start by learning the Spanish words for greetings, feelings, directions, numbers and colors, then move on to families and opposites. And even in Kindergarten the students are speaking the language and making presentations to their peers.

And coming this weekend!

We hope you have ordered your tickets for our middle school production of The Little Mermaid, a family-friendly musical directed by drama teacher Lindsay Quinn.

We have plenty of general admission tickets available for all three shows, although if you are interested in the Saturday matinee at 11 a.m., those are going quickly. The other two shows are on Friday night and Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.

To ensure getting your tickets - we have sold out all performances the past three years - we suggest you print out this order form and submit your request.
