Today we thought we'd take a look at some of the things we do at Swain - not programs or events or classroom happenings, but parts of our day that make Swain special!
Recess is big at Swain - every student gets outside and active (weather permitting). And even when it snows, they enjoy sledding and snow play.

Even the middle school students get outdoors each day. Every morning they take an outside break for 20 minutes, and there's another recess period after lunch.

Time between classes also gives our students a chance for socializing...

or a visit to one's locker - a special feature for many Swain students. Without a locker, where would all those Locker Buddies hang out?

One of the perks of being an 8th grader is eating lunch outside in the courtyard, whenever weather permits. Of course, they think the weather is OK for outdoor dining more often than the adults do!

And at the end of the day, there's the fun of hanging out in the "Bus Room" (aka the Ehle Lobby) with your friends.

Alumni News

On January 10 - the day she turned 16 - alum Sabrina Kennedy '11 became the youngest girl in our region to solo in a single engine airplane.

She started to learn about flying in an Aero Camp in July, 2011, at Braden Airport in Easton.  After the one week camp, she got the flying bug and has taken private flying lessons since then.  She has about 48 hours clocked in the air (only 35 hours are required to be eligible to solo).

According to her mom, "She did a fantastic job - beautiful take-offs, landings and patterns."  She now has her student flying certificate and can fly the pattern around the Braden Airport any time with her instructors' approval.  The next step is learning to cross country.

The Express-Times is running a feature story on The Hill School sophomore this coming Tuesday, January 15.

While other kids are getting their drivers licenses, Sabrina is getting her pilot's license!
