Awesome Artists - Belmont Elementary School
This quarter, AmeriCorps Members Alma and Josh have been working with the CLC clubs at Belmont Elementary School to host "Awesome Artists," an advanced art club for grades 4-5 that focuses on teaching lessons in art rather than just completing craft projects. So far, the students have enjoyed creating portfolios to hold their art pieces, discovering watercolor resist with crayons, learning to draw single-point perspective, and becoming acquainted with Picasso by drawing cubist portraits with oil pastels.
The children's dedication to the projects is admirable, and they come in every Thursday excited and ready to work. Alma and Josh are thrilled to round out this club quarter by exploring abstract art techniques through foil art, and working on literacy by writing a few lines about each of their favorite artworks from the club. Alma and Josh hope to continue the "Awesome Artists" club in future club quarters, working with new groups of talented youth.

End of Year Campaign Update
You are interested in Lincoln's art scene or you wouldn't be reading this e-newsletter.
You may be considering a year-end gift in support of our local arts and culture, but you haven't yet made a decision. You have many, many choices for investing your charitable donations and we are grateful for your considered participation.
We need you and we value your support. As a private, non-profit community service provider, we need patrons to fund our programming infrastructure. Some of our projects actually have sponsorship underwriting, like the Mayor's Arts Awards, the Lincoln Arts Festival, Community supported art and LAC Project Grants. Many of our programs are offered to participants at no cost, like Artists in Schools and Communities and the National Arts Program for Lincoln. Some of our offerings are so ubiquitous, it's easy to take them for granted - our monthly e-newsletter, monthly articles in L Magazine, Build-A-Bot free craft activity for kids and the data-rich resource that is artscene.org.

Update on Art Organization Memberships
One of the most important partnerships the Lincoln Arts Council has is with arts organizations throughout Lincoln. The advocacy work that arts council staff is involved in seeks to improve the environment for both non-profit and for-profit art enterprises as well as independent artists who make Lincoln home. The professional training and capacity-building opportunities we host and encourage are to enhance the operations of these organizations - both large and small. Just a few perks of organizational membership include:
- Inclusion in the Arts Portfolio, newly developed promotion for travel writers and distributed in conjunction with the Convention and Visitor's Bureau.
- A place at The Presenter's Round Table discussions each quarter. The next round table is January 16 at Warehouse No. 4 downtown.
- Lincoln Arts Council Project Grants for qualifying non-profits. Ten project grants at $500 are available in 2014.
