Community Supported Art 2014!

Lincoln's Community Supported Art project is in the planning for a great second year in 2014. Thanks to support from Union Bank and Trust and keen interest among local artists and art patrons, we are building a strong, grass roots initiative that results in commissions for local artists, real-world experience for art students and a very personalized art experience for collectors of local art!

Please note that the Call for Artist proposals opens November 14; they are due January 9, 2014. We will again offer 50 art shares and the commission is $35/piece or a total of $1750 for each artist. We welcome artists from all disciplines to submit a proposal. A citizens panel will select 9 local artists. The tenth "share" will come from local art students.

Lincoln Arts Council Project Grants

2014 Project Grants

The Lincoln Arts Council (LAC) is currently accepting funding requests for Project Grants. LAC Project Grants are available to 501(c)3 arts organizations who are members of the Lincoln Arts Council. Arts organizations have received a mailing outlining LAC membership details. If the mailing missed you contact [email protected]

Qualifying arts organizations can request $500 in support for projects occurring between February 1, 2014 and December 31, 2014. The application process is very simple and straightforward, with a due date of December 16, 2013.

Funding for the LAC Project Grants is possible thanks to a generous gift from an endowment established by the estate of Kenneth J. Good. We offer our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Good for his generosity and vision for a future filled with beauty. For specific information about LAC project grants including funding priorities, arts organization eligibility, and the proposal visit artscene.org/lac-project-grants

2011 End of Year
From Donor to Philanthropist!

National Philanthropy Day, November 15, is the special day set aside to recognize and pay tribute to the great contributions that philanthropy-and those people active in the philanthropic community-have made to our lives, our communities and our world.

What makes philanthropy so special is that no one is required to give of themselves. There are no national laws or regulations which mandate that you must volunteer or get involved. Philanthropy is so powerful and inspiring precisely because it is voluntary-that through the goodness of our hearts, through our need to connect, through our desire to see a better world, we come together to improve the quality of life for all people.

According to the Association of Fundraising Professionals website (www.afpnet.org), there are five "Ps" that characterize wise giving:

AmeriCorps: Serving the Community through the Artsh

AmeriCorps

For the past several years, the Lincoln Arts Council has been a partner site for the Lincoln Parks and Recreation AmeriCorps program. The LAC AmeriCorps members provide art programming that serves youth and adults in our community. Projects include the Lincoln Arts Festival, Artists in Schools and Community Residency Programs, National Arts Program, and the Mayor's Arts Awards. They learn valuable skills in arts management and the community reaps the benefit of outreach programming that enriches lives.

We have two new AmeriCorps members. Full time member Alma Cerretta has a BFA in Theatre Design with an emphasis in props from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. She is a hobbyist graphic designer and photographer, and loves to read books and watch movies. Half time member

Joshua Thorne is a Lincoln native finishing up his senior year at UNL. Josh is interested in visual communication and music technology, loves reading, photography, thunderstorms, animation, and good coffee. Our members are currently focused on an exciting new project implementing a service learning project at Belmont School. Watch for upcoming pictures and stories.
