Sponsors for the Mayor's Arts Awards are Winners in the Community Support Category

Mayor's Arts Awards

The city of Lincoln is so fortunate to have generous and civic-minded citizens, business leaders and volunteer organizations contributing to the quality of our shared lives! The Lincoln Arts Council has been about fulfilling the mission "to inspire creative community through promoting, cultivating and sustaining the arts in Lincoln" for 45 years. The LAC has been the official arts agency of the city since 2006. Having the support of these sponsors enables the work of our office and renews in us our dedication to serving the arts community as well as serving the community through the arts. Please help us to thank our sponsors:  http://www.artscene.org/maa-2013-sponsors

Woods Charitable Fund's 2012 Annual Report is now available.  Click here to learn about 2012 grant-making, this year's featured grantee and all the changes experienced in 2012!

Community Supported Art Lincoln's very own Community Supported Arts project has been launched with great success, with nine great artists and 50 eager shareholders. Stop by and see us at the Jazz in June Market as we bring together shareholders and artists at the first art distribution.

Encaustic art from Margaret Barry, glass teacups from Marc Kornbluh and origami landscapes from Linda Stephen will be distributed. We'll be at the third Jazz in June on Tuesday the 18th of June. If you're a shareholder, and there for the concert, we'll hold your art till it's over. If you're unfamiliar with the project, we'll have handouts that explain it. Join us for refreshments and conversation about art.

Register now for National Arts Program!!!

The National Arts Program

The registration deadline for the National Arts Program is JUNE 10, 2013.

The National Arts ProgramŽ is designed to give all visual artists - at all skill levels - an uninhibited opportunity to exhibit their work in a professional manner, and also to compete for cash prizes. All entries will be displayed in Lincoln City Libraries from July 12-August 9, 2013. Sponsored by the National Arts Program Foundation in support and cooperation with the City of Lincoln and Lincoln Public Schools, the exhibit is judged by professional artists and visual art professionals in Amateur, Intermediate, Professional, Teen and Youth classifications, and it is free to all who qualify. Don't miss this chance to be recognized for your creativity, and be proud of your art!

The National Arts Program invites City of Lincoln and Lincoln Public School Employees and their family members to participate in this exhibition opportunity.

Fore Arts / Fore Fun - Benefit Golf Outing on Friday, July 26 from noon to 7:00 pm.

Golf fundraiserArts Council Golf Outing the Perfect Place for Sponsors, Golfers & Artists

Here is an opportunity to support the Lincoln Arts Council by doing what you do best - or at least doing something you love. Event Sponsorships offer high-profile exposure before and during the event. Get the most bang for your community support bucks by signing on early, as did The Letheby Group of RBC Wealth Management. Food Sponsors and Beverage Cart Sponsors (like N Street Liquor) can also enjoy some pre-game publicity, but only if you sign on now. You might consider a hole sponsorship or registering a team of four to play. Don't have a team? No problem! Single players are welcome to sign up and form a team once you arrive.

And because this event is for the LAC, we invite artists to participate, as well. The comedy club duo of Ian & Angus - The MacCrakken Brothers will bring their broad Scots brogues and their broad Scots humor to the green in celebration of the nation that brought us the game. Local improve troupe - Lyp Schtick - will add to the fun. Would you like to adopt a hole with your talent - poetry, sketching, dance, music? - be creative! We would love to hear from you by JUNE 15. Go here for all the details.

Download the registration brochure or visit our Fore Arts Fore Fun web page for more details.

Encouraging Donations Reports

Lincoln Arts Council Donations

As you know, the LAC looks to sponsorships and private gifts for about 45% of our operating budget.  We are in a season of giving and I am pleased to update you on three specific campaigns.

Most of you are aware of the second annual Give to Lincoln Day, the 24-hour giving event sponsored by the Lincoln Community Foundation that raised a record $2,125,237 on May 16. LAC was one of 253 non-profits to participate. We will have the full accounting of all gifts (online and off) designated for LAC in the coming weeks, but early indications are that we doubled our donation total from last year!

"Outside the Lux Box" Turns Ordinary Lunch Boxes into Works of Art

When is a metal lunch box more than a food container?

When creative types get their hands on them -- and transform them into imaginative art.

Friday, more than 100 artistically reconstructed metal lunch boxes will go on display and become available for purchase at the first-ever "Outside the Lux Box" fundraiser for the Lux Center for the Arts.

The Bay

Kevin Moser takes you to The Bay, a skate park in Lincoln. While the original location had limitations, founder Mike Smith sees big potential in the new location as a safe haven for kids to experience skating, art and music. (From The Daily Nebraskan)

Sheldon Museum strips naked to display its architectural bones

LINCOLN - Daniel Veneciano has seen the Sheldon Museum of Art in its purest state: When it's empty. Veneciano, director of the museum on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus, has strolled the galleries in between exhibitions, when technicians take down artwork, patch walls and paint surfaces, refreshing the galleries and returning them to pristine form.
