It's simple, and patterned off of very successful Community Supported Agriculture programs. You buy a share and receive your share of the crop. Except in this case, it's CSArt, not CSAgriculture, and the crop you share is original artworks. It's a great idea and cooked up by the good people at Springboard for the Arts and mn.arts in Minneapolis.
The Lincoln Arts Council has partnered with Union Bank to launch the first three years of the program in Lincoln, the first CSArt program in Nebraska. Thirty five artists competed for nine available participating artist positions and were introduced to the community at a press event on March 21st. We're very proud of these terrific artists and the public has been as well-the fifty available shares were sold out in three days. You can view the artists and see samples of their work at artscene.org/community-supported-art. At the website you can also give us an email address to notify you of CSArt progress and be the first to get news of next year's program.

MAA Save the Date, Winners
It's not difficult to find artists and patrons in Lincoln who are exceptional people, but it is hard to choose between them to single out award winners. Nevertheless, a hardworking committee of local luminaries has selected another exceptional group of award winners to be honored at the Mayor's Arts Awards on June 12th.
You'll find their names and accomplishments listed at ArtScene.org along with information on how to join us at the awards banquet to honor them. It is always a pleasure to recognize people who make the arts such a vibrant part of Lincoln life, and we hope you'll join us to help the Mayor do so.
And the winners are...

SPRING PROGRAM CAMPAIGN focuses on Arts Career Training and Classroom Education
In spite of the weather, we believe that Spring has arrived! And so, it is time for the annual Spring Program Campaign (April 1 - June 2). The focus of this donation opportunity is EDUCATION. Thanks to a partnership between the Lincoln Arts Council (LAC) and the City of Lincoln, Department of Parks and Recreation, we have positions available for AmeriCorps volunteers. We plan to bring on two AmeriCorps staffers this fall. The fundraising goal is to meet our match for two positions or $8,200.
AmeriCorps volunteers receive invaluable hands-on training at LAC as they are assigned to plan, write grants for and administer such programs as The National Arts Program and placing local teaching artists in under-served classrooms. Additional AmeriCorps assignments include our Lincoln Public Art Inventory database. In fact, the second AmeriCorps staff we have will be assigned to complete the Public Art Inventory and present it online for use by residents and visitors alike.

Conrad Quijas is an artist at heart, though he hesitates to accept such a title. "I have never taken an art class in my life. People ask me all the time to teach them what I do. I can show them a few methods for what I do, but imagination, passion and vision cannot really be taught." That said, he obviously has an eye for what's pleasing and a flare for making art out of the materials at hand. This Scottsbluff/Gering, Nebraska native has taken the art of floral design to a whole new level receiving local, regional and international attention for his creations. From humble beginnings as a delivery boy for a local flower shop, he continued to look for floral design opportunities when he moved to Lincoln to attend the university. He majored in Architecture and Interior Design and supplemented expenses by working at Tyrell's Flowers & Gifts. After two years of classes, Conrad decided to pursue his dream of owning the business. In 1998, the Stem Gallery was begun along with Kurtis Bomar. More...

ART FLARES for March 2013
When creativity in our community makes the news, send up a flare! An odd piece of city land becomes useful in Antelope Valley February 27 Lincoln Journal Star What do you do with a seemingly useless, city-owned triangle of land less than a tenth of an acre? The weed-filled, surplus property with a rusty billboard at 21st and O streets and the building next to the land will find new life in the coming year and bring more culture to the area. Karen Kunc, a nationally renowned printmaker and University of Nebraska-Lincoln professor, has bought the building to use as a studio and will rent the unused land from the city for a parking lot and a green outdoor teaching space.
