Lincoln Arts Festival Call For Artists!

2011 Lincoln Arts Festival

On Monday, February 4th, the Lincoln Arts Council will be accepting applications for participation in the 2013 Lincoln Arts Festival. This premier art event in Lincoln brings over one hundred artists from all over the country to SouthPointe Pavilions for a fun weekend of art sales and demonstrations. Great weather brought just under fifteen thousand art lovers last year. We expect to grow this year with more great artists, memorable food and fabulous live music wrapped in a festival atmosphere that everyone enjoys.

If selling your art in an outdoor, festival setting seems like a good idea, go to www.zapplication.org to find out about our festival, and many other festivals all over the country. You will submit your application online on Zapplication. Photos and a $25 jury fee are required, with easy instructions right on Zapplication. Join us for a great weekend at a festival that many of our artists say is their favorite.

Last Call!

Oh those pesky deadlines!

Mayor's Arts Awards Call for Artists deadline is February 1st. Each year, the Mayor's Arts Awards honor the high achievers in Lincoln's arts community. This coming June will be our 35th annual awards. At the banquet and ceremony each winner is presented with an original work of art commemorating the occasion. The artwork is showcased at the awards banquet and goes home with the 14 winners for display in their homes.  We are looking for the artist to create this years awards.

Art Flares When creativity in our community makes the news, send up a flare!

Nebraska Artists Swap Brushstrokes for Keystrokes
Hilary Stohs-Krause, NET News
January 17, 2013
When it comes to contemporary art, forget paintbrushes, blocks of stone or pottery wheels; for some Nebraska artists, it's all about supercomputers, lines of code and robots. But while they push the boundaries of art, such innovations also present new challenges for museums - and audiences.  More...

Lance's Journal: A Capital City Art Pioneer
January 14, 2013

So many words can be used to describe Lincoln's Anne Burkholder...artist, visionary and risk-taker, among the many. She's been an absolute force of nature in the Capital City arts scene for more than 30 years.  More...

Be Artist. Be Athlete. Nebraska Associate Athletic Director Says You Can Do Both
by Eric Gregory.

Dr. Jamie Williams, Associate Athletic Director at UNL: "I created this mantra right here," he said, pointing to the right-hand corner of the screen. "'Be Artist, Be Athlete.' Because I figured we had to have an easy, quick mantra that you can always remember, like Nike's 'Just Do It.' Doesn't have to be grammatical. Just has to be like coaches talk to you. Be Artist. Be Athlete. Be both. Be the dichotomy. Be the warrior-poet, OK?  More...
