2013 Lincoln Arts Council Project Grants

2013 LAC Project Grants

Has your arts organization been thinking about a great project that just needs a little nudge to get going? We can help. The arts council will be distributing at least thirteen $500 Project Grants in February. We will be accepting funding requests beginning on January 1, 2013. Grants are available to 501(c)3 arts organizations who are members of the Lincoln Arts Council. Arts organizations will receive a mailing outlining LAC membership details in early January. Qualifying arts organizations can request $500 in support for projects occurring between March 1, 2013 and December 31, 2013.

The application process is very simple and straightforward, with a due date of February 1, 2013 and distribution before March. Find application details at ArtScene.org. Let us help you get that project going.

You Know You Want To...

Mayor's Arts Awards Nominate someone for a Mayor's Arts Awards, right? And we hope that you do, but please "due" it by January 14th!

Help us identify the best of 2012 in the arts community by going to ArtScene.org and downloading the nomination form. It's easy and fast. We just need basic contact information on you and your nominee and some info on why you think they're deserving of a Mayor's Arts Award. A letter or two of support from like-minded friends would help as well.

This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who is really making a difference to get the recognition they deserve and have earned. But you have to start by doing the nomination. Thanks in advance for supporting YOUR arts community.

Artist in Residence: Carrie Strope at Clinton Elementary School

It was a week packed full of fun for the art students at Clinton Elementary School on December 10 through the 14th. With grant funding from the Artists in Schools and Communities Program through the Nebraska Arts Council, local glass artist Carrie Strope was able to provide a week long residency offering her expertise in glass fusing and mosaics to the Kindergarten through Fifth grade students in Mrs. Resa Ortiz's art classroom.

Two projects were completed during this week at Clinton Elementary. During the first project, students learned about the process of glass fusing and then put their knowledge to play by designing a fused glass snowflake which they got to take home after they were fired in the kiln. The second project was a collaborative quilt inspired glass mosaic piece that will be hung in the school on permanent display. After learning about the process of creating glass mosaics and discussing color theory, students designed their own 4"x4" glass mosaics. They then picked out their triangles and squares and puzzled together their mosaics with adhesive onto a glass backing. The final piece will include 5 plexiglass panels which will display all of the student's mosaic squares. The final collaborative quilt of mosaics will be hung in the windows in the front hallway of Clinton Elementary

Call For Artist!

Each year, the Mayor's Arts Awards honor the high achievers in Lincoln's arts community. This coming June will be our 35th annual awards. At the banquet and ceremony each winner is presented with an original work of art commemorating the occasion. The artwork is showcased at the awards banquet and goes home with the 14 winners for display in their homes.

We're looking for the artist to create this years awards.

There is a modest stipend for creating the awards and a fairly generous calendar for their creation. If you think that your current work might be appropriate, click HERE for more information on how to apply. Here's an opportunity to put your work in some of the finest homes in Lincoln, and with people who love art.

"The life and essence of art-whether it is painting, music or dance-lies in expressing a wellspring of emotion, the universal realm of the human spirit.  It is the melding of the individual and the universal.  That is why great art reaches out beyond ethnic and national barriers to move people the world over."  D. Ikeda - International Committee of Artists for Peace.
