It's Your Responsibility!
November 2, 2012
This past weekend I watched the video of a sermon by Dr. David Jeremiah, the link for which I received at least four times from four different friends via email. Maybe you've seen it. If not, both Jan and I strongly encourage you to watch it.
At one point Dr. Jeremiah draws from leadership qualities that God gave to Moses to be used in selecting the leaders for the nation of Israel. He said that though the passage wasn't meant for the U.S., it serves as a wonderful illustration of the kind of characteristics we should be looking for in our national and state leaders.

Dr. David Jeremiah 's message

I was also surprised and delighted to be reminded of words that King David wrote in his last treatise to Israel: "He that rules over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God." II Samuel 23:3.
Dr. Jeremiah spent some time outlining the critical nature of the issues facing our nation in the days ahead and provided a very honest assessment of how the two top candidates that will appear on our ballots view these issues. And he did it from a biblical perspective.
But here's one of his points that I want to share with you right up front. Dr. Jeremiah said, "The real issue, men and women, is simply not that we have wrong people in the White House or right people in the White House. The real issue is that the people of God have become careless and indifferent to what's going on in this nation . . . I'm just saying to the people the best I know how, these are the biblical issues involved. You make up your mind, but whatever you do, don't sit on it, go do something about it."
Then, he quoted the famous evangelist, Charles Finney, who said: "The time has come that Christians must vote for honest men and take consistent ground in politics. The church must act rightly, or the country will be ruined. God cannot sustain this free and blessed country which we love and pray for unless the church will take the right ground. Politics are part of a religion in such a country as this, and Christians must do their duty to the country as a part of their duty to God. He will bless or curse this nation according to the course Christians take in politics."
At the end of his entire sermon, Dr. Jeremiah received a standing ovation. I truly hope you'll take time to listen to this 40-minute message and then, prepare yourself with information and, most importantly, with prayer, and GO VOTE next Tuesday, November 6th.
We, in America, have an opportunity, that many people around the world do not have and throughout the ages have not had: We are given the awesome privilege and responsibility to help determine who will lead our nation and our individual states. Abdicating that responsibility is not a viable option. We will be held accountable for what we do with this obligation that God has given us. Let us take this obligation seriously and, having dispensed it as is our duty, let us leave the results in the hands of God.
