Reorganization Arbitration Won by UT-AAUP

by

Elijah D. Baccus and Amy L. Zawacki, Attorneys

Law firm of Widman & Franklin

and

Donald K. Wedding, UT-AAUP Grievance Chair

The arbitrator has sustained the grievance filed by the UT-AAUP against the Jacobs Administration for its 2010 reorganization of colleges without "effectively consulting" the Faculty Senate as required by the UT-AAUP Collective Bargaining Agreements. This is an important win for the UT-AAUP. A link to the arbitration decision appears below.

This is the third significant arbitration recently won by the UT-AAUP against the Jacobs Administration. The UT-AAUP will be reporting on the other arbitration wins in separate newsletters.

The UT-AAUP and its attorneys are reviewing legal options in light of the recent 2013 moves by the Jacobs Administration to again reorganize colleges without effectively consulting the Faculty Senate. The UT-AAUP will be issuing follow-up newsletters on what options are being considered. This will also be discussed at a forth-coming faculty meeting along with workload.

Two meetings are scheduled for Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. in Student Union 2592 and Friday, February 1, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., room to be announced on Monday. All faculty are invited whether UT-AAUP members or not. If you are not a member, we hope you will join.
