This Month's Expert Conversation
With Joseph Seymour from the Northeast Biomass Heating Expo
We're excited to take part in the Northeast Biomass Heating Expo at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland April 16-18, including a Green Heating Fair that is open to the public each day. This 7th annual event will unite a diverse audience interested in biomass (wood pellets, cord wood, and more) heating. With exhibitors, panel discussions, and workshops, the Expo will emphasize practical learning and real project case studies. We caught up with Joseph Seymour to find out what the Expo is all about, and what attendees will find there this year. Read our full conversation with Joseph.

Urban Runoff 5K & Green Neighbor Fest
Runoff is water that flows over the surface of the ground, picking up pollution before it flows into nearby waterbodies. Runoff happens after any rain storm, and in Maine we see a lot of runoff in the springtime when the snow melts. A new kind of Urban Runoff will soon be seen in Southern Maine! On April 25, runners and walkers will be hitting streets and trails in Portland for the Urban Runoff 5K, to increase awareness of water pollution and raise money to support clean water education in local schools. The Urban Runoff will lead into Green Neighbor Family Fest, where families and community members will be able to take part in hands-on activities about water and learn steps for becoming a green neighbor. The race starts at 9am at Deering High School, and will be held rain, snow or shine!
Ticket giveaway
We are giving away four tickets for the Urban Runoff 5K - would you like one? Email us to let us know you'd like to participate in the race by this Sunday, April 12th, and we'll select winners by random drawing next week.

Maine Tool Library Opening
The first Maine Tool Library opened in Portland at the end of last month, and is now open for lending at 224 Anderson Street in East Bayside. The Maine Tool Library is a nonprofit lending library, circulating a collection of gardening, landscaping, home improvement, and kitchen tools. This entity is a membership-based community resource; it is a library for tools instead of books. Tools are loaned on a weekly schedule - patrons can check them out during the library's open hours, and will be able to borrow them for a full week. Learn more about the Maine Tool Library, how to get a library card, and their current inventory.

"Winter Sunrise" Cocktail Recipes
In February and March, we held a series of "H-app-y Hours" to celebrate the launch of The SunriseGuide Mobile Edition. Every party was at a different location, and we asked each venue to create a signature cocktail for the event called "Winter Sunrise." Each venue created its own interpretation of the drink...and we're excited to share the recipes for the "Winter Sunrise" cocktails created by Little Tap House, Sebago Brewing Company, Vena's Fizz House, and Frontier.
