September 2014
Greetings!
Autumn Apples School buses on the roads again, apples at the Farmers' Markets, and a smattering of orange leaves - autumn is on its way to Maine! We hope you're enjoying this glorious time of year when two amazing seasons overlap to bring us delicious local food, warm days, and cool crisp evenings.
1st Annual Portland Greenfest - September 13th

We are excited to co-sponsor the 1st annual Portland Greenfest, which takes place this weekend (Saturday, September 13) from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in Portland's Monument Square! The eco-fair features music, art, eco-fashion, local food, kids' activities, exhibits, workshops, films, and demonstrations. There's even an eco-film fest, with screenings of these films at the Portland Public Library. (Details for all Greenfest activities can be found here.)

We caught up with Jeff Edelstein, creator and facilitator of Portland Greenfest to find out more.

People's Climate March - September 21st in NYC!

This month, world leaders are coming to New York City for a UN summit on the global climate crisis. On September 21st (two days before the summit), several hundred thousand people from all over the world will march in support of world leaders taking action on climate change. The People's Climate March will be a peaceful demonstration of solidarity; not a protest, and it has been organized by more than 1000 businesses, nonprofits, schools, faith groups and more. It is predicted to be the largest climate demonstration in global history, and there will be satellite events happening that day around the world. There are organizations in Maine that are chartering buses to and from New York City - click here for information about transportation from Maine to the People's Climate March.
