Pesticides in Produce
Vegetables The Environmental Working Group recently released its updated 2014 list of produce with the highest and lowest pesticide contamination. Released annually, EWG is helping people "shop smart" and avoid exposure to these harmful chemicals by highlighting the "dirty dozen" and "clean fifteen" fruits and veggies. And with a smart phone app, the info is right at your fingertips while you shop! Check out EWG's 2014 Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce.
Local Hikes for Outdoor Adventurers of Any Age
Mother and child hiking The days are longer and warmer, the birds are chirping, and all things green and flowery have returned to Maine - it's the perfect time to get out and explore the natural beauty of our state. And if you have little ones, it's never too early to introduce them to the many wonders that nature has to offer. Registered Maine Guide, Carey Kish, helped us compile a list of some of the best family-friendly hikes in Maine; plenty to appeal to outdoor enthusiasts of all ages.
World Fair Trade Day
coffee_beans_cup.jpgWorld Fair Trade Day took place on May 10th with the goal of promoting Fair Trade practices and campaigning for trade justice with farmers, workers, and artisans. Upwards of 100,000 people celebrate this annual event by attending nearly 1000 events throughout the US and Canada. Although May 10th is the day of celebration, supporting a market "that values the people who make the food we eat and the goods we use" is something that can be done every day. And your SunriseGuide includes several coupons towards your purchases of fair trade goods at such local businesses as Coffee by Design, Full Circle Gallery, Bohemian Rose, and more.
