Calling All Locavores!

This Saturday, August 10th, the University of Maine Cooperative Extension will be hosting its 5th Annual Backyard Locavore Day from 10am-4pm. Your day will be self-directed and there are fourteen sites in Southern Maine to visit. Demonstrations will focus on backyard gardening techniques, food preservation methods, and more. See backyard poultry and honeybees at work, plants of all sizes and varieties, techniques for container gardening and square foot gardening, and enjoy "Preserving the Harvest" demonstrations with food samples. Learn more.
A Lobster Tale
Local author Caitlin Shetterly tells the story of one family's experience teaching their young son about responsible eating while enjoying one of Maine's favorite culinary traditions. Enjoy Dahlov Ipcar's illustrations from the children's book Lobsterman as you read this unique and personal tale about the iconic Maine lobster. Central Maine Power Offers Grants for Electric Cars
Know a business or organization that might like to add an electric vehicle to its fleet? Central Maine Power just announced a program that will provide up to $15,000 grants for the purchase of an EV or EV charging station in exchange for collecting and sharing data with them. Learn more.

Capoeira Volta ao Mundo in Portland is holding their 3rd Annual Brazilian Burn fundraiser on August 17th, to support their "Capoeira Encounter" at the end of September. 


Chewonki Foundation just installed an electric vehicle charging station; adding to their list of renewable energy systems, including a biodiesel production facility, a wind turbine, photovoltaic systems, a geothermal system, and a renewable hydrogen system.
