 February 2013

Whether you love to play in the snow or not, we all tend to spend a bit more time indoors (with the windows shut) this time of year. So we shift our focus this month to some elements that have an impact on indoor air quality -home furnishings--and some things we can do to keep our air as healthy as possible. And because we know that near-zero temperatures don't stop Mainers, you'll also find an abundance of events this month throughout the state.

(And be sure to check out our e-coupons this month for some sweet ideas for your sweetie...or yourself!)

Their focus is to help people make informed purchase decisions as they create a sustainable, green bedroom and organic nursery. They have showrooms in seven states, with one in Kittery and one at Furniturea in Portland. Learn more about what they offer and why you may want to consider greener options in your bedroom.
Houseplants for Indoor Air Quality
Using an air purifier is not the only way to improve the air quality in your home. Houseplants are a natural, inexpensive and beautiful way to clean the air of common toxins like benzene, carbon monoxide and formaldehyde. Learn more about which plants have the skills for the job!
"Musings from the Floor: My Experience with an Off-Gassing Couch"
by Heather Chandler, Owner & Publisher of the SunriseGuide
Over the years, we've provided readers with information about indoor air quality, ways to green your home, and why it's important to consider "nontoxic" options when shopping. Recently, Heather had these important lessons reinforced as she learned first-hand how purchasing a couch could affect both her short-term and long-term health. Read more.

Although it may feel like summer is a ways off, we have already begun working on the 2nd annual Green & Healthy Maine Visitor's Guide. To officially kick-off the 2013 edition of this publication, we've created a new Facebook page! Please take a second to "like" it if you're a fan of the magazine and if you want to be kept in the loop about info and events of interest to green and healthy travelers in Vacationland! Know a business that might like to be included?
