The resolution to establish the Rice-Allen Fund, from the original program from 1946.
|
Planned Giving:
The Rice-Allen Fund Gives Back to
United Methodist Women
It really does pay to save! And a recent gift to United Methodist Women shows just that.
In 1946, the Women's Society of Christian Service of the Metropolitan Church, Detroit, Michigan, established the Rice-Allen Fund in honor of Dr. Rice and Dr. Allen. The purpose of the fund was to support the education of Christian workers, and the original gift was $15,000. Over the years, the endowment has grown to over $1.3 million!
Last year, the Metropolitan United Methodist Women unit voted to split the fund with the United Methodist Women National Office. The national office retains 45% of the fund, and the Metropolitan unit will administer 55% of the fund.
In short, United Methodist Women received a gift of almost $600,000!
Both funds are set up as endowments, and both will be used for the education of Christian workers, as originally intended. This could include supporting missionary trips, helping fulfill the needs of a children's summer camp, or providing professional development and education to Christian education workers.
United Methodist Women is extremely grateful for this gift, and we are looking forward to continue to provide educational experiences that foster spiritual growth and help transform the world.
