CREW Sacramento President 2012

Yolanda Harris photo

It has been a great honor and a pleasure serving as President of CREW Sacramento in 2012. Looking back over the past twelve months, I reflect on my gratitude to this organization. The wonderful opportunities I was given to develop my speaking skills, leadership training, travel to council meetings and conventions throughout the country and Canada was truly a privilege and very rewarding.

Celebrating 30 years is a huge accomplishment in the Commercial Real Estate Industry and to host our event in the beautiful backyard of Nancy Hotchkiss' home on a nice June evening and to have our CREW Network liaison, Kris Beason there to share in our celebration was amazing! Our awards program and golf tournament was at full capacity with a waiting list.  We have grown our membership from 70 to 96 with a waiting list and the luncheon "Hot Topics" inspired a high level of attendance. Don't forget our Member Mixers, and judging by the attendance at the Holiday Party we are assured that CREW Sacramento is being noticed by the local commercial real estate industry.

In my incoming message as President, I was asked where do I see the organization in a year. We are stronger, bigger and more visible in the community with an increase in female entrepreneurs and corporate real estate industry executives attending our events.

As I conclude my year as CREW Sacramento President, I would like to express my deepest sincere gratitude to and appreciation for each and every one of you and  I am very grateful to the 2012 Board of Directors, committee chairs and members who made my job manageable and rewarding.

Thank you for the opportunity and I encourage you all to continue to strive for excellence....

Coming in 2013: "Next Gen" Group
Professional Development & Networking

CREW members, get ready for an exciting new networking group exclusively for CREW members, age 35 and younger or those with fewer than 3 years in the commercial real estate industry. We will keep the cost to a minimum to include monthly networking and quarterly professional development lunch meetings throughout the year. The idea is that our younger members or those new to the industry have the opportunity to form valuable relationships which can help build success in the future. You "grow up" with the same generation of peers, and those peers become your friends, confidantes, potential clients, bosses, employees and referral sources -in short - your network. Now is the time to create relationships with those peers, in a tight group that wants to combine work, fun, networking, and learning all in one format. Who doesn't love killing 4 birds with one stone? We'll make it easy on you too - we will set dates and locations in advance, on the same day and time, and make it no host, no RSVP required; just show up. The quarterly professional development series will be by reservation only, but will be free or minimal fee as well.

Here's how it will work: on the first Thursday of each month, the "Next Gen" group will meet for no-host coffee or cocktails (odd months are coffee, even months are cocktails - that way we start January with coffee and end with cocktails in December!). Once a quarter there will be a brown bag lunch on a topic to be voted on by the group. The brown bags will be facilitated discussions on work/career/professional development topics. There are some other activities planned, but we'll reveal those as we go along... join us so that you can be a part of the founding group!

 GOLF CHARITY NOMINATIONS

The Community Outreach committee is seeking nominations for the 28th Annual Golf Classic Charitable Recipient. The 2012 recipient received $12,500! The only eligibility criteria is that the organization must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the greater Sacramento area.

There are many deserving charities so we have an application form to assist with the selection process. Deadline for submissions is January 10, 2013.

We look forward to getting your input and welcome anyone that wants to be involved in the committee!  If you have any questions, contact Sherie Bishop or 916-379-9087.
