Nolan Frank - Spotlight Player of the Week
This week's Spotlight Player of the Week is Nolan Frank, who plays for the Classics Eagles U17 Boys Red team. Nolan has played with the WASA Eagles and Classics Eagles since U9, with some guest appearances at U8. Nolan is a skilled and speedy player who maximizes his potential as a player and his impact on the game by his exceptional work ethic. Nolan has worked hard on developing his skills during training sessions, in the game, and on his own away from organized team events. His coaches, teammates, opponents and all who have watched him play in games take note of his all out efforts. In training sessions, his teammates and coaches continually name Nolan as one of the hardest workers, who sets the standard for others.
Nolan has excellent dribbling skills and moves, which he uses to keep possession of the ball and move it at high speed in tight spaces and open spaces alike. He has creativity and vision which he uses to make passes that create dangerous finishing opportunities for his teammates. But what is most intriguing to those who watch Nolan play is trying to figure which foot is his strong foot, and which foot is his weak foot. Nolan can dribble, win the ball, pass the ball and finish with both feet, with similar strength and accuracy. Classics Eagles asked Nolan to answer some questions to help us get to know him better.
Classics Eagles: What school do you attend and what grade are you in?
Nolan: I am a junior at Westerville North High School.
CE:You had some good success during your recent high school season at Westerville North. Tell us about any awards you won, and your number of assists and goals scored.
Nolan: This year I was named second team all OCC. I scored 10 goals and had many assists.
I was also given the Most Improved award.
CE: A notable part of your game is that you do not have a "weaker" foot, and you do not appear to be either left or right footed. What did you do as a very young player to become a two footed player?
Nolan: I was naturally a right footed player when I first started playing soccer, but I knew I needed to become skilled with both feet to become competitive. I just started working on shots in the backyard, we always had some sort of goal set up. My older brothers also played soccer. My father coached rec soccer for years and always encouraged me to practice. I became equally strong as a left footed player as time went on.
CE:What skills are you trying to improve on now?
Nolan: There are always skills to work on while playing soccer. I'm trying to concentrate on my dribbling skills and getting past the defenders. Still working hard at accuracy with my shot!
CE: What are your goals for soccer in the future?
Nolan: I'm just starting to make plans to attend college after I graduate next year. Playing college soccer has always been a dream of mine. No matter what I do, soccer will always be a part of my life.
